Tonight I feel traumatized.
This evening I was cooking dinner. Mac was outside. MT wasn't home yet and T was up in his room. I couldn't see Mac out the kitchen window, so I went to the door and whistled for her. I could see her running along the fence on the north end of the yard along the busy street. I couldn't tell if she was on the house side of the fence or the outside of the fence and I figured she must be on my side of the fence.
There was a man walking across the street who was looking at me and pointing. I didn't have shoes on, so I thought I'd better get some shoes and go see what was happening with the dog. As I walked through the front room, I saw two people in my yard. It was my neighbor Spencer and his wife. I went outside and Jessica told me that they had seen Mac and tried to catch her. Spencer had Mac sort of trapped between himself and the house and she was cowering. She was so scared. She came right over to me and I scooped her up.
Somehow she got out of the yard. I walked all along the fence line and the only thing I could find that was along the west boundary, the fence doesn't reach the ground all the way. There is an inch, maybe two inches, where I guess if she really wanted to, she could scootch under.
It freaks me out that Mac was running along the fence line on the busy road and it makes me sad that she wanted to get back in the yard and couldn't do it. I know it was only a couple of minutes, but plenty of time for doggy tragedy.
Fortunately, all is well, except now I won't let her in the yard to play without someone being with her. I hate the idea of it, but I might have to get a tether and tie her up until we get the fence fixed. And what if I'm wrong and that's not how she got out? What if there's another spot that I didn't see?
MT and I will definitely look it over, hopefully tomorrow night, and come up with a plan. I don't like the chain link fence anyway, but have always been scared of how much it would cost to put in a real fence. Vinyl might be cool. I don't think MT has the time to build a fence for us. I guess it wouldn't hurt to call and get estimates. If Mac did crawl under the fence, she won't be able to do it much longer because the space is small and I swear she grows two inches and two pounds every day.
I'm telling you I have a like/dislike relationship with this pupper. Mostly it's like, but she is trouble, too.
That must have been scary for both you and Mac.
ReplyDeleteI remember in Burley Trooper was digging under the fence and got out, Marv got in the pick up and look all around for him, he finally came home on its own, Marv tried to fix the fence and he dug under it again.
I think it's a good idea to tether her in with a long leash or just have someone stay with her when she's outside. She's just a pup.
Poor little Mac! I’m glad your neighbors were able to help out. That is traumatic though!
