#369 the wreck, the house and birthday eve

This morning on my way home from the gym I was involved in a little fender-bender car accident. I was sitting at a red light, waiting to make a left turn, minding my own business. There was a blue mini-van in the lane next to me. She was going to to straight through the intersection.

There was a red car that wanted to make a left hand turn onto the road I was on. There was a white pick-up truck coming the other direction, going straight. The driver in the red car failed to yield to the white truck; the red car started to make the left turn and the white truck hit her. The red car then spun around and came to a stop between my car and the blue minivan.

I was joggled around a little, but not hurt. Fortunately, no one in any of the cars was hurt. The driver of the red car had her glasses and her wig knocked off her face and head. She was hit pretty hard.

I got out of my car to see if she was ok. The red car was trapped between my car and the minivan, so she couldn't get out at all. The minivan driver also couldn't get out since the red car was smashed against the driver's side of the van. The pick-up truck was damaged also. The truck had fluid leaking out from the engine area, and one headlight was dangling.

If there is a good part about this, the fire station is right by where the accident happened, so there was very quick response. The firemen were all really nice. They felt bad for me for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, I guess.

One of the firemen let me use his phone and I called MT to let him know what happened. MT was just getting to work, but he came quickly to the accident site to make sure everything was ok. I thought that was really nice. I sent him home to make sure T got up and ready for school.

It took awhile for the police to gather all the paperwork, issue a citation for failure to yield to the lady in the red car and to give us all copies of the police report. I got home around 7:45 or so. The accident happened around 6:30.

I have to admit that I was a little shaken up by the experience. I didn't really realize it until I was in the shower. When I got in the hot water, I just started shivering. My hands were shaking a lot. I had some food and calmed down, then I got down to the business of calling the insurance company and doing all that stuff. What a pain!

Tomorrow I meet with the claims adjustor to find out how much it will cost to fix my car. I expect the red car lady's insurance to take care of it.

I went to work around noon. What else was I supposed to do? I guess I could have stayed home and watched the first day of the NCAA Tournament, but I didn't.

In other news, MT and I are about to become the proud owners of a fixer-upper house. We'd like to "flip" this one. MT is super-excited about it. I'm trying to be excited and supportive. Or at least supportive. More info on this adventure later.

My fine young son will be turning 12 years old tomorrow! TWELVE! Where does the time go? He'll be starting junior high in the fall. He's not a baby anymore, but he'll always be my baby. I love you, T!!

And yes, Mom, I know I promised more tales from Palm Island. I promise that I will write and post pictures on Saturday (or maybe Sunday - I might be helping T spend his birthday money on Saturday!)

And now it's time for sleeping.
