1. The dog. Mac and I are continuing to come to terms with each other. She is playful and high-energy and sometimes her play gets a little rough. I'm getting more used to it and teaching her when gnawing on my hands and fingers gets a little to strong. She's a smart pup and I know she's getting the message. One habit she has, probably because I react to it, is that she nips at my legs and bum. Sometimes she gets a little more flesh than I'm comfortable with and I overreact which gets her more excited and riled up. Mostly, though, she is lots of fun and I'm glad she's here.
2. Trees. A week ago Tuesday there was a massive wind-storm here in northern Utah. I wrote about it last week, about semi-trucks blowing over on the freeway and trees being blown over. I didn't go to the office at all last week, but I did have to go this Monday. It's not like I'd forgotten about the storm, but it didn't have the effect here on the west side of the valley that it did to the northeast. I was stunned when I drove down the road to the office to see all the branches and downed trees along the road. I was nearly in tears when I saw all the trees at the office that had been blown down. I remember when all those trees were freshly planted over 20 years ago when the company moved into that new building. They were little and I've watched them grow over the years to big, beautiful trees. So many of them were destroyed; I bet there were around 20 trees that are now gone, including a giant evergreen that was in front of my office window. I loved that tree. I loved watching the birds fly around it. This summer there were even hummingbirds that flew around the tree. So sad.
3. Hummingbirds. Speaking of hummingbirds, I think their season in my backyard is over. I haven't seen any for a few weeks now. I enjoyed watching them from afar much more than I thought I would. I'm going to put away the feeder for the season and hope that they come back in the spring.
