There is an elderly couple that lives in the neighborhood that I sometimes see when I take Mac out for a walk. The first time I saw them was an early morning in late summer. I must have had to get to the office early because I remember it was kind of dark. They were at the far end of the last cul-de-sac and they were traversing the road. By that I mean they would walk across the road at a slight diagonal, get to the other side of the road, then turn around and walk in a slight diagonal to the opposite side of the street. Why do they do that? Are they getting more steps in that way?
Like I said, it was kind of dark when we first saw them and with the erratic walking, it looked like they were sort of jerking while they walk, you know, like zombies do. Of course I knew they weren't zombies, but I was still relieved when they got close enough to me that I could ascertain they were old people.
Mac hated their walking style. She stood stock-still, legs stiff, tail up, ears all pointy. When they got closer to us, she ran behind me, because she's kind of a chicken. The couple laughed at the dog and said something about scaring her as they continued their zig-zag walking down the street, into the next cul-de-sac then around the block.
I'd almost forgotten about them because they must not walk when I do, but I saw them again tonight! The man was by himself, zig-zagging down the street. The lady must have had a late start because she was up in the last cul-de-sac, traversing her way to the main road.
Yes, it still freaked Mac out, but she was a little better this time. She let out a tiny "woof" when the lady came near us.
I'm thankful there are no zombies (that I know of) in our neighborhood!
