On Sunday I took Osi for a walk, like I usually do. She is doing really good with her loose-leash walking. (That just means she doesn't tug as much as she used to!) At the end of the walk, I let her run around free in the field for a few minutes to get out all her puppy-crazies. It's fun to watch her run. She'll run in big wide circles around me, then come over to check in and maybe get a treat. She also likes to jump 0r spring toward me to get the treat out of my hand sometimes.
Well, on Sunday, she was running hard and swerved toward me at the very end of her run and I didn't have a chance to get out of the way and she plowed into my right leg, at about knee level. The knee buckled; Osi fell over; I doubled up, almost puked, and started to bawl and spew obscenities. Good thing we were alone in the field. It was terribly painful. I wasn't sure what happened, but I knew it hurt.
I hobbled to the car and came home, took some Tylenol, and limped through the day. I was busy around the house, preparing for my family's arrival, so I didn't sit down for a few hours. When I did sit still, the knee started to swell and became very painful. It was so swollen, I couldn't bend it comfortably. I cried some more, took some more meds, and went to bed. I didn't sleep well though. I was really uncomfortable and the knee hurt a lot. I woke up around 3:39 in terrible pain and I couldn't get back to sleep.
I called Dr. Ben in the morning and was able to get an appointment with him that afternoon. He says I sprained my MCL (medial c... ligament, I don't know exactly). He gave me a giant knee brace and a Loritab prescription, gave me the second Euflexxa injection in my left knee, since I was there, and sent me on my way. He also told me to take it easy, exercise-wise, for a week or so.
The brace has helped. It's not comfortable at all, though. The Loritab helps me sleep. I don't think I'll take one tonight, though. My knee feels a lot better, but I know it's not healed. I haven't been to the gym all week. I feel like a slug, but I know it's the right thing to do. It's so strange not to exercise, though! Exercising has really become part of what I do every day and I miss it. Hopefully I can get back to the routine next week. The trainer at Dr. Ben's office, Natalie, gave me some stretches to do when the knee feels better. I'll probably try those on Sunday.
Mom and Dad arrived on Monday afternoon, right around the time I was at the doctor. Last night Mom, T and I went to Hale Center Theatre to see "A Christmas Carol." I really love the production. Such a timeless story! We enjoyed it.
Tomorrow Lizzie and Jeff will be here. It will be great to see them. It's going to be a fun weekend!
