#868 February blahs

I have a terrible case of the February blahs. My skin is pale and dry, I look like I'm tired all the time because my eyes are droopy. My hair is dry and lackluster and without style. I hate all my clothes. I feel fat and I just want to eat unhealthy foods and I can't seem to bring myself to do any sort of exercise. I just want to sleep all the time, even when I'm not sleepy. I think I'm deficient in Vitamin D because it's been so long since I've seen the sun. I'm not surly or cranky or sad or mad...I'm just blah.

Sounds like I need to spend a bit of time somewhere warm. Hopefully I will get that later in the week when I head to Southern CA to visit my family.

When T was in elementary school, he was on a year-round track program. We always chose the track that had time off in February, then we would plan our vacation somewhere warm and tropical during that time. We like it for many reasons. By February, we've already had at least three months of winter. When we got back, we knew that spring was just around the corner. Vacationing in February gives you something to look forward to in January. We would go to the tanning bed (I know! I know! It's bad for you, but it feels so good!) We would shop for clothes. We would spend hours in front of the computer planning excursions.

Since T is in junior high now, he is on a traditional schedule and doesn't have much time off, so the past couple of years we have vacationed in June. Any vacation is great, but vacationing in June is not comparable to vacationing in February. It's already warm here in June, so we're not escaping anything. Plus, for MT and I, our work is busiest in the summer, so I miss more when I'm gone in June.

This year we are thinking about vacationing a little later in the year - like late fall maybe. We'll see how it all shakes out.

In the meantime, I've got this little break planned to go to California for a few days. It will be great to see Mom, Dad and Sister and if they could arrange for some warm temps and a little sun, so much the better!
