Yesterday I stayed home from work. Actually, I went to work, but I was feeling nauseous and I had an upset tummy. I decided I would rather come home and be near my own bathroom than make frequent trips down the hall at work to the restroom. I felt a lot better today. My stomach was/is calm but tonight I am achy in my back and shoulders. I need a massage!
I did something I rarely do this weekend: I gave up on a book. I have a self-imposed rule that if I read 100 pages and I am still not interested in the story/characters etc, I can stop reading it. I was reading a book called Meet Me in Barcelona. A promising title and the cover was nice. Unfortunately, I could not bring myself to care about the characters and I sensed that the story was going in a direction that I didn't want to follow. Plus, I was annoyed by the frequent references to the tango. Granted, it has been many years since I've been to Barcelona, and things are probably different, but I don't remember people dancing the tango in the plazas or hearing about intimate little tango places. At the beginning of the book, there is a reference to a postcard showing a woman wearing a red dress and the skirt of the dress is actual fabric. I have seen postcards like that and have actually had many postcards like that sent to me by my grandparents, but the woman in the photo with the red dress wasn't dancing the tango. She was a flamenco dancer. When I hit a dozen references to the tango and I reached 100 pages, I returned the book to library. Bummer.
After that I read a short (120 pages) book that I had on my Nook. It was quick and enjoyable mind candy. You can read about it on the 2014 Reading page if you want. Isn't it funny that I used so many words to describe a book I didn't even finish and I'll probably use about half as many words to talk about the book I did read.
Tomorrow is my mom's birthday. Happy pre-birthday Mamacita! I won't be writing here tomorrow because it's my off-day and I'll be watching the finale of Survivor, but I'll definitely call her and I'll be thinking of her, too. Last year my sister and my dad planned a wonderful day of fun and a surprise party for her. It was one of my most favorite days of the year. You can read about it here, if you want. I'm sorry I won't be there to celebrate your birthday with you tomorrow, but I'll catch up with you in a week, Lil Mama. :)
