I saw four movies this weekend - and that's a lot for me. And guess what Mom? I hadn't seen any of them before!
On Friday evening, T and I went to see "The Woman in Black". T chose it because he really likes Daniel Radcliffe. I thought the trailer looked a little creepy and before the movie, I told T he might have to hold my hand if I got scared. He assured me that wouldn't happen. I'm not sure if he meant that I wouldn't get scared or that he wouldn't hold my hand. All I can say is that we held hands through the whole movie and he has quite a strong grip! The movie was pretty creepy, although the story was pretty dumb. I found myself saying things like, "Don't go in that room, Harry Potter!" or "Get out your wand, Harry! Lumos!" Still, it was good fun to watch the show with my BS (Beautiful Son.)
On Saturday night, MT and I had Date Night. We went to dinner at Rumbi, then we went to see "One For the Money." Definitely mind-candy, just like the book, and I liked it just fine.
When we got home that night, I watched a movie I rented, "Midnight in Paris." It's nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture. My sister and my mom have seen it and they both thought I would enjoy it. Were they ever right! I totally loved it. So imaginative and romantic :) And those shots of Paris...it made me want to wander all around the City of Lights. Beautiful. That's two movies where Woody Allen has done a great job a showcasing a city. He showed off Barcelona in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" and now Paris. What amazing city is next, Woody?
This afternoon I saw another Oscar contender, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close." This movie had me at Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock, but you know what? You don't see much of them. You do see the kid in nearly every scene. He's good, but a little creepy, kinda. Of course, the movie was sad; the subject is the kid's father dying on 9/11, but there are times when there is hope and a little joy, too.
I recommend "Midnight in Paris." It's excellent.
There are nine films nominated for Best Picture. I've seen four of them: The Help, Moneyball (I own both of those!) Midnight in Paris and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Most likely, none of these will win.
Then, of course, there was the Superbowl. New York Giants vs New England Patriots. I didn't really have a horse in this race. I don't really care for either team. I was on one Superbowl board, and I just wanted to win some cash, but I didn't. :( It was a pretty good game. It wasn't a blow-out and the Patriots could have won with that throw at the end if someone in a blue shirt had caught it.
That last play reminded me of grade school. We used to play a game called 500. I don't know why we called it that, but we did. One person would throw the ball and there would be a big group of us at the other end of the yard. Whoever caught the ball got to be the thrower. When the ball was thrown, we'd all jump up to try to catch it. If no one caught it, the thrower got to keep throwing. It sounds kind of dumb, but it was really fun. I played it a lot on fifth and sixth grade.
Now football season is over and we can concentrate on basketball for a couple of months. Then it will be time for baseball and baseball means summer and summer means vacation and we are currently on Vacation Quest 2012. More on that as we go along.
One more thing...
It's been 10 years since the Winter Olympics were held in Salt Lake City. Already the newspapers have begun retrospectives. I have too. I was on Olympic volunteer and my assignment was the Utah Olympic Oval where the speed-skating competition was held. Being an Olympic volunteer was an amazing experience that I will always treasure. I found my 2002 photo album that has some pictures from my volunteer time. I also kept a journal during the two weeks of the Olympics. My plan is to share them with you here on the days I have entries. I think it will be really fun. The first entry is February 8, which was the night of the Opening Ceremony.
Before that, though, either tomorrow and/or Tuesday, I'll write about seeing the Olympic torch run. Two people that I knew carried the torch and I got to see both of them do it. I'd like to write about both of the people and post some pics I have of that time, too. I'm excited!
