This afternoon the sky turned gray and cloudy and then it started to snow. The snowflakes were those great big fat fluffy flakes that look pretty but pile up quickly. Fortunately, it didn't snow for very long, but it was enough to remind me how much I wish winter was over.
The snow also made me wish I was close to going on a tropical get-away to somewhere there would be white sandy beaches and beautiful blue water. Somewhere like Palm Island, maybe. MT and I went there in February 2010, and it remains one of our favorite vacations.
There were a few reasons why that particular vacation has so many great memories. One reason, for me anyway, is that the island and the resort were pretty small and there weren't very many guests on the island. I would say there were maybe 50 people there. Sometimes it felt like we were on our own private island. I loved to ride a bicycle around the island every morning after breakfast, then spend the day at the beach or at the pool.
The beach there was probably one of the most gorgeous beaches I have ever seen. The sand was white and soft. The water was a spectacular clear blue and warm. My only problem with the beach was that there were so many fish right up near the shore I couldn't get over having the fish all around me, so I didn't go into the water very much. I liked the pool though.
MT and I went there by ourselves and we met some fun couples there that we hung out with. The highlight of the trip was renting a big catamaran sailboat and crew for a day with two other couples and going out on the boat all day long. It was pure heaven. We went to a neighboring island, even less populated (on the side where we were, anyway) than Palm Island. We went to the Tobago Cayes Marine Park where we (everyone but me) swam with the sea turtles. We had a great lunch. There was snorkeling and sunbathing and beer drinking and dancing and laughing and it may well be one of the best days ever.
Man, do I love to go on vacation!
Here's a pic of MT and I on the beach at Palm Island. We were getting ready to go for a little walk with some of the other people to a nice snorkeling spot on the island. Look at the water. You know you want to dip your toes in there :)
