Friends, I know I missed writing on Friday, but I have a legit excuse which you will learn about if you keep reading. This weekend has been sort of epic in that every day there was something worth noting. Each of these things could be their own post, but I'm not going to drag it out.
On Friday we went to the Salt Lake Bees game with my work group. T and his friend K came too, which was pretty great. The drama and excitement for our family came after the game. T and K left a little early and while they were at a stop light, they got rear-ended. The woman who hit them must have been going pretty fast because her air bags deployed. T's car's back end was smashed into his rear tires. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident, but neither car was drive-able and both had to be towed. We have filed a claim with the lady's insurance company, and I should be hearing from the adjuster tomorrow. More info to come.
On a happier note, on Saturday MT and I went to see Chris Stapleton in concert. When we got to our seats, some people were sitting in them. When I talked to the couple, they told me they were just sitting by some friends and now that we were there they would go to their seats. Great; no harm no foul. Then the friend jumps up and comes over to me and offers me $100 to trade seats with his friends. Their seats were a few rows back from ours in section 301 (ours were in section 302). I said okay, he pulled out a $100 bill, we traded tickets and everyone was happy. In fact, we saw the $100 guy about mid-way through the show when we went to check out the merch tent and he high-fived us and thanked us again for trading seats. We were satisfied with our new seats and I was plenty happy to get $100. Win-win. Also, Chris Stapleton was fantastic.
This evening the three of us went to see the movie BlacKkKlansman. One of my fellow volunteers had seen it on Friday and told me it was worth a look. I hadn't heard about it, so I checked it out online and thought it would be interesting. Plus Adam Driver is in it and I like him a lot.
Holy shit friends. The movie is funny, disturbing, timely, thought-provoking and sad. During the last 10 minutes or so of the film, there was not a sound in the theater. I left with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. The film, based on a true story, is about an African-American police officer who infiltrates the KKK with the help of his white colleagues, one of whom happens to be Jewish. I'm unsure if the rhetoric and the words are from the time (1978) or if the writers weaved in the words being used today to draw a comparison and show that not much has changed in 40 years. No matter -it was very effective.
Here's hoping everyone had a wonderful weekend and that you're all rested up and ready to kick some ass this week!
