Here we go! A new year. It's funny because I woke up just the same as when I went to bed. I have so many thoughts floating around in my head about how I'll be different and better in the new year, but I was still just the same old me this morning. Actually, I woke up with a bit of a cold this morning so I just went back to sleep for awhile. Osi woke me up by pacing back and forth through my bedroom and pawing at my side of the bed to get me to wake up. I got kind of mad at her for that.
We have had a really, really quiet day. We didn't even leave the house. MT spent all day on the couch reading or watching TV. He's currently binge-watching the Netflix show Marco Polo. T has been on his computer a lot of the day, but he also spent time watching Yu-Gi-Oh! It was throwback time for him, I guess.
I've been reading and cooking and writing. I really wanted to finish the Maeve Binchy book yesterday, but I fell a bit short. I thought I was about 50 pages short, but I was actually only about 20 pages short because there were many pages of photos and the reader's guide. Oh well. I guess it will count as the first book I finished in 2015! Time for a new reading page!
I cooked a ham and some potatoes for our new year's day meal. We went to Fleming's Steakhouse before Christmas and MT really liked the Fleming's potatoes. I told him I could probably find the recipe online and I'd make them one day. Today was that day. Nothing like starting off the new year with a new recipe. I followed this recipe from People magazine. I made a couple of changes though. I couldn't find any leeks at Smiths, so I used shallots instead. There was only one jalapeno available at Smiths, so I only had one pepper, and I added a couple of cloves of garlic. The potatoes tasted good, not quite Fleming's quality, but really tasty. I got a food processor for Christmas and I happily used it to shred the cheese. So fast! I should have used it to slice the potatoes and the shallots and the jalapeno, but I didn't fully comprehend the processor's capabilities. The meal was good. We've got enough ham to last for awhile. I'm pretty sure MT and T will be darn sick of ham sooner than I use it all.
I also mentioned that I've been writing. Last year my sister Lizzie turned me on to the concept of unravelling. She found a blog by a lady named Susannah Conway who pretty much guides you though wrapping up the year and getting ready for the new year by setting some "intentions". Tonight I spent a couple of hours wrapping up 2014 in my unravelling journal (different from my regular journal - I don't know why, but that's what I did). I thought some deep thoughts and giggled at myself and kind of opened myself up to letting go of some things that I didn't even realize were on my mind until I just started writing and going with it. During my writing time, I had the Alabama/Ohio State football game on the TV with the sound muted and my iPod is playing on shuffle. I'm using my Chromebook to go through the unravelling worksheet and writing everything by hand with my pretty colored Sharpie extra-fine pens. I'm a multi-media fool!
Tomorrow I'll probably do the writing exercises for 2015. I think it will be fun. I have some things in my head, like I mentioned earlier, that I would like to accomplish this year and I'm looking forward to fleshing it all out with Susannah's tools.
What about you? Does anyone have any plans or dreams for 2015?
Let's get after it! Talk to you tomorrow :)
I finished a book! Check out the 2015 Reading Page. |
