Today is the last day of January. We've already had 31 days of 2012. Did it go by quickly to everyone, or is it just me?
I was thinking about the month that passed. The first couple weeks of the month, I was pretty much obsessed with my work. I wasn't feeling happy about it and I was feeling some stress whenever I was there and whenever I thought about it. My shoulders kept creeping up around my ears as I held all my tension in my shoulders and upper back.
Then my dad got sick and went to the hospital. Then there was the surgery and now there is after the surgery.
And that's when I got perspective.
I realized that my work is just my work and it will be fine. Yes, it's pretty yucky right now and this year will probably be tough. But compared to what my mom and dad are going through, and by extension my sister and I and our families, work is cake.
Every day I think about my dad and I think about my mom and although I'm not really the praying type, I find myself sending kind thoughts and happy wishes their way, hoping that whatever higher power is listening will help us all.
Work I can handle. I'm surrounded by really great, smart people there who know what they are doing and even though we have some learning to do on our new software, we're going to get it figured out. We're going to continue to bid and build work, and the admin staff is going to keep supporting the engineers and we're going to be ok.
My dad is going to come home from the hospital (soon, I hope, if he's ready) and he and Mom are going to find a new routine to take care of the new situation. I'm hopeful that Dad won't have the horrible infections anymore because the surgery will have taken care of that problem. Dad's going to need to get his strength back. He's going to have to work a little to make that happen. My mom is going to have to continue to help him. My sister and I and our families will be supporting them and helping them in whatever way we can.
It's kind of messed up that it takes something affecting your family to make you see the big picture.
I don't think I expressed myself very well here. I know what I want to say, but I I think I could have said it better. Anyway, there it is, my thought for today.
31 days in January - 31 posts! YAY! Next month I'll go back to my two or three times a week schedule. I like to write :)
