#2200 how did I get here?

I both can and can't believe it has been two weeks since the last time I wrote here. I can believe it because I know that it's been awhile since I logged on to write, but I also can't believe it because the time has gone by so fast I can't even really remember what has happened to pass the time. Do you know what I mean?

A quick recap: in the past two weeks, I have been strangely busy at work. I guess it's really not that strange because it is the nature of the business I work in that we will be slow and then all of a sudden, we are very busy. Ten and twelve hour workdays this early in the season for me are rare though, so I think it has been strangely busy.

MT had a routine medical examination that required a driver/escort, so I took a day off to help him with that. He bought himself a bike, so we have been on a couple of bike rides. T is being T. Sometimes I see him, sometimes I don't. He technically still lives at the house, but there are times that he will leave for work on Wednesday night and I won't see him again until Monday evening when I get home from work.

The biggest news is that my mom had been feeling poorly since the last time I saw her in April. She'd been to the doctor and even had an ultrasound on her abdomen, but hadn't heard anything from the doctor. Last Tuesday she was feeling so bad - high fever and severe shakes - that she took herself to the emergency room where she was admitted to the hospital because there were concerns about a bile duct and gall bladder. On Thursday the gall bladder was removed. Thankfully Lizzie was able to come up to LM to hang out with her while she was in the hospital and to make sure she got home all right, but she had to go back to SD to handle some business. Because there was a wee complication with the surgery, the three of us decided I would come to stay for a week to help with what I can.

Bottom line: I'm at my mom's house. I wouldn't say I'm on vacation, but I do get to sleep in a little bit and I get outside for a walk in the afternoon and I get to play with the dog quite a bit. I've been doing some reading when I can squeeze it in. I'm also spending time on my computer doing a bit of work, cooking our meals and cleaning up the kitchen, making sure my mom takes her antibiotics and other meds, and tending to her wounds. The cooking and playing with the dog are easy; I didn't think I would ever be any type of caretaker-helper person. Lizzie is the nice, empathetic one. That kind of stuff doesn't come naturally to me. I'm trying, though. I don't think I've made Mom cry yet, so that's a good thing. :)

Now we're up to date with the happenings in my world. Maybe I'll actually get back on track with writing. Here's hoping! See you Thursday (probably).
