#532 flash mob!!

Today I did something that I've wanted to do, but didn't know if I'd get a chance: I participated in a flash mob!

I received the invitation to join the flash mob in May. Originally, the site was going to be the Gateway mall in SLC, but so many people said they would attend (almost 1,000!) that the venue was changed to the Taylorsville Dayzz festival. There were many classes held around the valley so you could learn the dance moves, but I didn't get to attend any of them because we were out of the country. Fortunately, there was a video on YouTube that taught the choreography. I came home last night and learned the moves. It was pretty easy.

So this afternoon, I headed over to the park pretty early. I was concerned about parking and I didn't want to miss it. After all, the song is only four minutes long! I parked in a nearby neighborhood so I wouldn't have to deal with the inevitable traffic jam when trying to leave. It was a gorgeous day, and it felt good to take a little walk. I found the area where we'd dance, and I put down a towel, got something to drink, and read my book.

I kept an eye on what was going on around me. An ABBA cover band that was going to perform later that night was having a sound check, and it was fun to listen to them do parts of different ABBA songs. Who doesn't love ABBA? Dancers kept showing up. I could tell they were going to participate because they were wearing Zumba clothes, or they were in cheerleader outfits or they were carrying little American flags.

What was supposed to happen was that when the song started, little kids were going to do the clapping part. Then the organizers would join the kids, the all the Zumba instructors would join in, then everyone else could come in when they wanted. I think typically in a flash mob, people start moving wherever they are standing. Then you just have a big area of people all doing the same dance moves.

Well today, when the music came on, most of the people all ran to the front where the little kids were and started dancing right away. I didn't, though. I stayed in my area and watched for a few moves, then I joined in on the "Dougie" part. (Watch the video; it's the third mission.) I was kind of back there on my own, but it was fun. I could watch the big group, and I had people around me kinda looking at me like "What is she doing back here?" I was doing all the right moves though!

I was just checking YouTube to see if anyone had put up any video from today, but I don't see any yet. There were news crews there filming, so maybe we can see some of it. I might even watch the news tonight.

After that dream was fulfilled, I headed over to Barnes and Noble. I decided to buy myself an e-reader, so I got a Nook Color. It's like a little PC. I can access the internet, I can read magazines (yes, I have to buy them) AND I can read books. There are almost two million books that are free, I can download books from the library, also for free, and I can buy books. I went ahead and bought one already, the newest book by Ann Brashares. It's called "Sisterhood Everlasting" and it's another installment of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books. All the girls are grown-up now. I saw it in the bookstore at the airport and I knew I would read it. Seemed like as good a book as any for my inaugural purchase.

Where are my Boys today, you may be wondering? They are at MT's family reunion in Idaho. I decided not to go, and not because of the flash mob opportunity, although that was part of it. I didn't want to kennel Osi again so soon and I just got home after being gone for a couple of weeks. I just want to chill out. I've enjoyed spending the day with myself.

It's not all fun for MT and T, though. T called me this evening and told me MT had to go to the hospital. Sometimes he has trouble swallowing his food, and tonight he got a piece of steak stuck in his throat. He couldn't get it out, so his brother took him to the hospital in Pocatello. Fortunately, MT threw up the piece of meat and he's ok. He didn't have to go to the hospital. How scary! He called me when he got back to the campground. He sounded pretty shaken up. I think that he will see a doctor next week to find out what is going on. This isn't the first time this has happened, but it sounds like it might have been the worst episode.

That's all I've got to say about today's activities. I promise - PROMISE - that I will write something about the vacation tomorrow.

Adios!

How fun! I hope there's a you tube on it soon.
And scary about Marty, I'm glad he's OK.
