#553 Eighth Grade T

I started the month with every intention of writing something here every day, but things happen and frankly, coming up with something to say that entertains me and might entertain you is sometimes just plain old hard to do. Especially when life gets a little routine and monotonous.

The biggest thing that has happened in our house recently is that T has gone back to school. It's only been seven school days, but I am happy to report that he seems to really like eighth grade, and even better, I really like Eighth Grade T! He's just so cool! He gets up in the morning and takes a shower, and we even have our shower schedule worked out so we don't have problems. He's ready to go at 7:15, so I can drop him off and get to the office by 8:00. He seems to enjoy his classes, has made some nice friends, and even talks and laughs with us, his parents! Eighth Grade T rules!

Sometimes old, angsty, sullen Seventh Grade T comes back. I hold my breath and hope he won't stay for long. For example, one day last week, we were driving to school in the morning. Seventh Grade T didn't like to talk in the morning, but Eighth Grade T is better at it. Anyway, I was commenting on a book that I was reading, a book that T had suggested.

Seventh Grade T: I read that book like a year ago.

Me: Oh. I guess it would be hard to remember. I won't talk now.

A minute goes by. Eighth Grade T shows up.

Eighth Grade T: Yeah, it was last September that I read that. Wow, time goes fast. I remember that part now. You'll be surprised when you find out who did that.

We continued to chat for a minute or two, then we were at school. He allows me to kiss him on top of the head, then he briefly brushes his lips on my cheek. I'll take it!!

Last night Eighth Grade T entertained us with a free-style rap that involved him pulling his pants down low to reveal his boxers and included something about drinking milk for it's vitamin D properties. Have I mentioned that his voice has dropped and he just about looks me in the eye when we stand face to face? Also, our feet are the same size.

One more anecdote: I took T driving on Sunday. Yes, he's too young and doesn't have a learner's permit, but we went to a parking lot where there were no other cars and I got him behind the wheel of my Corolla. I only have a little tiny bit of whip-lash from the experience - he was a bit rough on the brake at first, but he got better. He even got the car up to about 20 miles an hour at one point and declared that to feel "very fast." He drove for about 15 minutes or so and did all right for his first time. Afterward he said he didn't think he'd want to do it again anytime soon. Then on Monday he told me he'd probably like to try driving again this weekend. :P

~~

In other news, I'd appreciate it if you could send some kind thoughts and good karma along to my dad who is in the hospital. He is suffering from peritonitis. The good news is the antibiotics seem to be working to kill the infection, so we're hopeful that he'll have a successful recovery and be able to continue the PD at home. Get well soon, Dad!

I love to read all and even the ordinary things like day to day things.
Oh, T has really grown during the summer then :-) Well, he is a teenager and they do grow fast ;-)
I have prayed for your Dad and I glad to hear he's doing better. I hope the time he's been on the dialysis have made him stronger able to cope with things like this.
I pray and hope he gets home soon.
Hugs and kisses from Mia <3 <3 to you all.
