#687 The Dovekeepers
I just finished reading the book "The Dovekeepers" by Alice Hoffman. I have enjoyed many of Alice Hoffman's books. She is a wonderful writer and this book is really amazing. I couldn't put it down. I saw the book in the library and I've been wanting to read it, so I borrowed it even though at the time I was in the middle of a fairly long book. I don't usually like to read two books at once, but I couldn't stop myself from going into the world of "The Dovekeepers." I did force myself to finish the first book I'd been reading and once I did, I was right back into Hoffman's world.
This is a book of fiction based on history. The setting is Israel before it's Israel, I guess. The story begins in 70 A.D. I'm not much on historical fiction, especially in biblical times. Hoffman tells the story of four women who survive in spite of the incredible hardships they endure. I loved each of the four women and admired them and hoped for the best for them.
The women come together, mostly separately, to the fortress Masada. I didn't know anything about it or what to expect from this story. I'm still a little stunned and overwhelmed by the whole thing.
I don't really want to write a review or a book report. I just really enjoyed this book and the story and wanted to pass it along to you.
