I'm pretty sure that I have mentioned before that we are planning a trip to Thailand for February. I had been doing quite a bit of reading and research and then I kind of got cold feet. I got a little scared. For one thing, Thailand is really far away from Salt Lake City. For another thing, there are just so many options that it was overwhelming. What do I know? I tried to pick out places that I thought we would like, but there is so much information available and one source would say a place is great while another source would mention something that wasn't great. Plus MT hadn't been involved at all. I think his MO was that if I picked out all the places we would stay then I would be more invested in the whole endeavor and he would be happy because he was in Thailand. I would prefer if we worked on it together. I don't mind doing the research because I like that kind of thing, but I don't want to be solely responsible for the trip.
MT heard what I said, so building on the research I had done and the locations I had picked, he started looking at resorts and things to do in those areas. He then reached out to our travel agent, Candice, with some initial thoughts about what we wanted to do, where we wanted to stay and a budget. Now Candice is working on putting a package together for us based on what we told her. We'll probably hear from her later this week or early next week.
I fluctuate between being excited and being nervous and worried about it. The photos of the various locations look beautiful. Seeing Angkor Wat would be a dream come true. (Yes, I know Angkor Wat is in Cambodia. It's a little bonus trip.) On the other hand, it is so far away and so very foreign. I'm used to vacationing in the West: the Caribbean or Europe. The Far East is uncharted territory, completely out of my comfort zone. Plus I have to buy new clothes. I've been reading that linen is really the only way to stay comfortable. I don't wear a lot of linen in the intermountain west. It's all just messing with my head.
It will be okay though, right? Every person I have ever talked to about Thailand has been incredibly positive about their experiences. Every single person has asked what I was waiting for and to get myself over there and enjoy it.
There will be more words about this topic, my friends.

A guy who works for me just got back from a week in Singapore. He really enjoyed it. He went by himself. He has a friend who lives there but he didn't stay with them. If you paid me $1,000, I never would have imagined that he would go to Singapore.
Everything will be okay. You've done tons of research, and you know Candice will be on it, giving you tips and other info to make sure you have a fun, safe adventure. It will be so exciting! And even if it's not your favorite, then you'll know!
