My work schedule changed slightly this month. I get to work from home (WFM) on Monday and Wednesday for at least this month, and hopefully beyond that. I am delighted with the work schedule. Originally, it was planned that everyone would go back to the office all the days, but the corporation set out WFM guidelines and most of the people in our office petitioned to be allowed to WFM for two or three days a week. Management came up with a plan that allows most of us to WFM two days a week. All of us will be in the office on Thursdays and the other days are split. Tomorrow will be the first day all of us will be together in the office since mid-March last year. I have seen all of my co-workers throughout the year, but not all at the same time. It's kinda crazy. I'm pretty sure it's going to be a little rambunctious in there tomorrow.
Before the pandemic forced us all to shelter in place and work from home, I did not think I would enjoy staying home to work. I had done it a couple of times, and it was a little difficult to find my groove. Once I did, though, I was hooked. What do I like about it? I get to sleep in about an hour longer. I don't have to make myself presentable to other people. I do get dressed, but not in work clothes. I do brush my teeth, comb my hair, and wash my face, but there is no make-up and the hair is usually pulled back into a ponytail. I love the commute down the stairs to my "desk". I like letting the dogs play outside and having the door open just a little so they can come in and out, at least during this time of year. That open door policy wasn't my favorite during the winter.
Of course there are some downsides. I don't move around as much. My house is a lot smaller than the office building, and I frequently don't have a worthwhile step count on WFM days. I tend to snack more when I'm at home because the kitchen is Right. There.
So yes, the best thing about today was working from home. I had a lot of windows open because the air was nice, just enough of a coolness to it. I took the dogs for a quick walk at lunchtime and got to read a little bit while I ate a sandwich. The work kept me busy and engaged without being overwhelming. It was just freaking pleasant.
