#2565 today’s best: chatting

When I was thinking about the best thing that happened today, I was surprised to find that it was the random conversations I had during the day. I enjoyed talking to people! That’s kind of unusual for me. Like Glennon Doyle says, I like humanity, but sometimes humans are problematic.

At the dog park this morning, I chatted with an adorable young guy called Colby. He had a sweet little pupper who seemed to be part spaniel and part terrier. Colby and I talked about how fun it is to watch the dogs run around. He told me that he and his wife of two years are figuring out how to retire before they are 30. We didn’t get into details about it, but he seemed very excited at the prospect. Who wouldn’t be?

Another person I talked to was Dave, a man closer to my own age. Dave has a part Great Dane puppy called Brinley who was experiencing the dog park for the first time. She is a cute dog! She has long legs and huge paws, and she was nervous about running around with the other dogs. She got the hang of it, though. I stood around talking to Dave for a few minutes. He’s divorced and only has custody of Brinley every other week. Dave is originally from Idaho and is glad to find the dog park so Brinley can run around and act like a dog.

After the dog park, I went to weigh in at WW. My coach, Lana, was there, as well as Patty, a regular member of our old Saturday morning group. I chatted with them for a little while about struggles that we are having with our weight loss. We talked about lentils. (I learned about lentils on Sunday at the WW meeting. I bought some, but haven’t had them yet. I have been quizzing everyone about the best way to enjoy this “superfood”.)

This afternoon, while I was at Red Butte Garden, I ran into Robin, the director of the wedding/events department. The last time I talked to her, in late 2019, she was thinking of retiring, and I hadn’t seen her around over the past couple of months, so I figured she had retired. Turns out that since the Garden was closed most of last year and definitely wasn’t having any weddings, she was furloughed from the job and had the year off. She was planning on retiring when the management convinced her to come back for another year. She has only been back for a couple of weeks. I enjoyed catching up with her for a few minutes. I will always think of her as the badass woman who relocated a baby rattlesnake while I rode shotgun and offered support.

In other news, tonight is my last night alone. MT will be home from vacation tomorrow night. I know that he’s been having a good time because he’s been sending me photos nearly every day.

Tomorrow night is the first game of the playoffs for my beloved Jazz. I’ll be glued to my TV beginning at 7:30 pm. Go Jazz!

Are you having a good weekend? Talk to you tomorrow!
