#2572 today's best: Mac's gotcha day anniversary

T and I got our dog, Mac, a year ago today. It had been about six weeks since Osi went to dog heaven, and I missed having a furry friend around the house, especially since I was working from home every day. I had been looking at the classified ads for puppies. I kinda wanted a Labrador, mainly because on the Dan Patrick Show, there is a dog called Penny that is part lab and she seems sweet. In looking for labs, I found lab/husky cross puppies. I showed the online pics to T, and we decided to get in touch with the person listing the puppies. I think it was a Friday afternoon. I took off early from work, and T and I drove to Draper to look at/bring home the puppy.

She was so little! She sat in T's lap the whole way home. She kinda whimpered, but she was a good girl. When we got home, we went out to the back yard and she wobbled around. Her personality (dog-anality?) became apparent pretty quickly.

This is the first day we got her, 29 May 2020

It has been an interesting year. She is different from any dog I have ever had. She's definitely her own critter. She is super loyal, but not very cuddly in general, unless she has been naughty and wants to make up.

This photo is about a month later, 24 June

Honestly, there were times that I didn't know if I could handle her and I very briefly considered not keeping her. It pains me now to think that I might have made that choice, but at the time, she was really hard for me to deal with. Then I did some research on the breed. The husky is strong in this one, and huskies have strong personalities. I had to adjust my expectations and behavior to relate to this strong-willed pup.

We endured. It took getting another dog to help Mac be a better family dog (thanks, Harley!), and now I can't imagine not having Mac in our family. She certainly keeps me on my toes!

To summarize, the best thing about today is celebrating a year since Mac came to live with us. She is a darling, devilish girl.

Last year on the right, this year on the left. She grew!
