#2710 vacation day 11: Rome UPDATED!

I’m going to start with this:

Step count = 27,806; 11.7 miles; 9 flights climbed

And just for fun, my move calories = 1,383 (the goal I have set is 670)

I have so much to talk about today, but I’m too freaking tired to tell you about it! My iPad is downloading all the photos from the trip - there are around 480 photos that are being uploaded - so I’m hopeful that I will get to share photos while I am still on the trip.

Here are highlights from today:

  • The Spanish Steps
There are a bajillion people here

One side of the Spanish Steps - you can see some steps!

What I saw before I looked down and saw the Steps

  • Piazza del Popolo
Entrance to the Piazza

The obelisk and the twin churches in the Piazza

  • The Trevi Fountain (at least three times)
When I walk by the fountain tomorrow, I’ll take a photo of the gajillion people
  • An uncounted number of random churches
  • The enormous Vittoriano monument

  • A food tour in Trastevere - I wrote a whole post and added a bunch of photos about the food tour. Check it out!
You can’t shake a stick without hitting a church or a gelateria in this city. Also, there are GOBS of people here.

MT and I have had to pinch ourselves so many times today. We are in Rome. We are seeing cool things and we don’t even know what they are yet. You turn a corner, and there are some random ancient columns. You turn another corner, and there is a big basilica. Around another corner is a statue or a fountain. Here is my favorite sign:

The hotel is really nice and in a good, central location. Everything we want to see seems to be in one mile radius, except the Vatican. We might have to take a taxi there, but we’ll think about that tomorrow night while we are planning our day.

Here’s the last photo I took tonight, of the Vittoriano monument. It is huge. All the important buildings, statues, and fountains here are huge.

First of all, please know that I've been reading all the blog posts and trying to comment, but I've learned commenting on my phone just doesn't work!
Marseille looked nice and I second Mom's comment about the photo with the umbrella. Super cute!
Cinque Terre looked quite charming and seemed like a place I would love.
Florence seemed like it was overwhelming, mostly in good ways. I can't imagine seeing those original works of art. Completely bonkers cool.
And now, Roma! I'm glad you have a few days there to explore and soak it in. I can't wait to hear about the food tour. The names of some of the sites are familiar because of "Angels and Demons" ;) I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that you're saying everything is so big. That's amazing.
Enjoy the Coliseum tour tomorrow!
I love you!
