I *think* I may have recovered from my jet lag now. I went to the office on Friday, and when I got home, I had to take a nap. On Saturday I only left the house to take T to work. I read and slept and puttered around the house. Today I was more active, but I still managed to take a pretty long nap. MT has been feeling sluggish, too. He took both Thursday and Friday, plus the whole weekend, off work. He has done some stuff around the house, but mostly we have both been pretty low-key.
Today my volunteer season at Red Butte Garden began for real. I have a docent gig again! I switched from Saturday to Sunday. Really, the docent gig has changed. BC (before Covid), there were two two-hour shifts. I was there from 1:00 to 3:00. Now there is just one three and a half hour shift; I am there from 9:30 to 1:00 and there are two docents and two tram drivers. Today was the first day the trams were running and the docents were there, so I met three new people that I will work with every week. All three of them have been volunteering for the Sunday shifts for a few years. They are all very nice.
The weather was overcast and cool, with temperatures in the low 50s. Even with the gloomy weather, the Garden was busy. There were many times when both trams were out at the simultaneously. One of my favorite things is talking to people from around the country and even around the world who come to visit the Garden. I spoke to folks from North Carolina, Florida, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Virginia, Washington state, and Tel Aviv, Israel today. Of course there were local people there, too, but most of them are members and don't really need to talk to me because they know where they want to go.
Here's a pic I took this morning while I was walking around to see what was blooming:
Toward the end of the shift, the temperature dropped and even though I had appropriate clothing, I was still chilled. I cranked up the heat in my car and turned on the seat warmer when I left. A storm front came through and it started to rain just when I left at 1:00.I went to the grocery store directly from the Garden, and it was pouring over here on the west side. When I got home, I put on cozy clothes, ate a late lunch, and took a long nap.
What am I looking forward to this month? It's time to switch out my winter clothes for the summer clothes. I'll be doing that probably on Saturday. Not only do I switch them out, but I cull them, too. I have so many clothes, and I really do not need that many things. It's actually kind of overwhelming. I was thinking that having that many choices kind of complicates my life. While on vacation, I only had a few choices, and I made it work. Not that I am only going to have five tops and four bottoms, but I do want to cut back. I'll let you know how that goes.
I'm also looking forward to picking out a new planner! My birthday is next month, and Lizzie usually always gives me a new planner for my birthday. I have the July - June planner for this very reason. During the winter, I looked at women-owned planner companies, thinking I might switch it up, but really, I love the Papier planners. The size is perfect, and the paper quality is wonderful. The way the planner is set up is a little odd, but I've become used to it. It is a European company, so the monthly calendar starts on Monday and ends on Sunday which makes so much sense to me that I don't know if I'd like to have a Sunday - Saturday calendar. It's little things.
Writing here this month will take place on odd-numbered days. I'm pretty sure there will be a few more posts about the vacation I just took because I have stories and photos to share rather than the daily overviews that I posted while I was there. I really enjoyed writing here every day while we were on vacation. It was a fun way to immediately recall what we were doing and it was relaxing, too.
I hope you have something you are looking forward to doing in May.
Cheers!
