#508 is that even possible?

This morning I did the Kenpo X workout and I burned just over 300 calories in the hour. I felt pretty good about it, especially because there were sometimes that I felt completely clueless in my swinging and kicking. Still, I got sweaty and my heart rate was definitely in my "zone".

The number of calories I burned got me wondering if that was a good enough number. Should I be burning more? I remembered a Facebook post I saw a couple of weeks ago from a lady I've taken zumba classes from. She posted that a woman in her Saturday morning class burned over 1200 calories during the 75 minute class. Is that possible? It seems like a lot. The most I ever remember burning was one Wednesday night when I did an hour cycling class followed by an hour zumba class and I burned close to 800 calories. And what I remember most about that night was that I was wet with sweat and kinda wanted to throw up from the exertion.

My friend Nicole is training to run in a half marathon, and she is a workout queen, so I thought I'd ask her about calorie burning. She said that she's read that you can expect to burn 1200 - 1500 calories when running the 13 miles of the half-marathon. She expects that her total running time will be around two and a half hours.

That information makes me think that maybe the zumba lady's heart rate monitor has an incorrect setting or something. Because really? 1200 calories from an hour and fifteen minutes of zumba? I guess maybe it could happen.

In the end, does it really matter? I mean, I don't even know the zumba woman. More power to her, I say, if she burns that many calories when she's having fun. I'll take my measly 300 and say that it's better than nothing!
