This morning MT and I decided to go for a drive. I've never been to the Uinta mountain range, and MT says it's very beautiful, so we decided to go.
We left home around 9 am and drove toward Park City. Last night it rained here in the valley, but there was a trace of fresh snow on Parley's Summit. The temperature was in the low 30s and it certainly looked a lot more like early fall than late spring!
It took about an hour to get to the town of Kamas where you turn to head up into the Uintas. We stopped at a gas station to get something to drink and when we walked in, there was the most delicious smell of fresh donuts. Of course we had to have one! They were fresh, fluffy and yummy. If you're ever in Kamas, UT, stop at the Chevron on the corner where there's the traffic light. The donuts are tasty.
We headed toward the mountains. The thing that is interesting about the Uintas are that they are one of the few mountain ranges in the U.S. that run east to west. In fact, they are the highest range in the lower 48 states to run east to west, according to Wikipedia. Anyway, it's been very rainy here this spring, and the valley was beautiful and green.
As we got higher into the mountains, though, the temperature dropped and we came into some snowy road conditions. The Mirror Lake Highway wasn't even open. We ventured in as far as we thought we should, then we turned around. We chose to turn around where the snow-mobilers were starting their adventures.
I'm sure we'll try to get back into the mountains this summer. I'm sure it will be green and gorgeous up there in July!
On our way back home, we thought it would be fun to swing over through Morgan and have lunch at Taggarts, but unfortunately, Taggarts was closed for Memorial Day.
Even though we really didn't get to do just what we wanted, we still had a good time driving around and hanging out.
I'm ready for some sunshine! Help me out, Mother Nature!
