Happy August everyone!
It was a few months ago, I think, that I lamented the fact that I didn't know my own shoe size, so I have problems buying shoes. Flip flops? No problem. Slides? Easy. But when it comes to actual shoes that fit all the way around the foot, I've got nothing but problems.
Acting on the sage advise of my mother, I had the lady at a shoe store measure my feet recently. Ah hah! My right foot is half a size smaller than my left foot! Any my feet are a little on the wide side - not too much, but enough to be squishy if the shoe isn't a little generous. You can't very well buy a right shoe in one size and a left shoe in a different size. They ALWAYS check for stuff like that before they ring up your purchase. So I have weird feet.
A couple of weeks ago, MT needed to buy some new shoes for work, so I went with him. The shoe store he went to was having a buy one, get one half price sale, plus we had a 20% off coupon. While he was trying on shoes, I looked around too and found a perfectly cute pair of Naturalizer shoes. I put them on and they felt great- wide enough across the top and good in the length. I should also mention that when I was heavier, my feet were bigger, that is, I wore a bigger size. Do you see my confusion? And you know how clothing sizes aren't always the same across the board? Like a 14 in one brand is necessarily a 14 in another brand? I thought shoes might be the same, so I went ahead and purchased the shoes at the sale.
I've worn them twice, and today I had to admit to myself that I bought the wrong size. The right shoe flops around like a clown shoe. There's a good tow to three inches of space between the back of the shoe and my heel. The left one is a little better, not quite as floppy, but still floppy. How ridiculous am I? And I really like these shoes!
I remember the lady at the shoe store telling me that they sell inserts for people with my problem. I think I'll check it out and see what I can find.
In the meantime, I bought a new pair of cross-trainers last night. I'm fairly confident that these shoes are the right size. I put them on and walked around in them for awhile. I'll let you know how it goes when they are put to their first test in the class I'm taking tomorrow night.

August has the makings of a pretty fun month, and since I don't have any more vacation stories to write about, I guess I'll just write about my simple little life. This week I'm most looking forward to attending the wedding reception of my BFF's son. I remember the day he was born, and now I'll be there on his wedding day. Wow! Since we moved to SLC when he was five years old, I have a tough time seeing him as a young man, although I of course I have seen him through the years. But really - married? That's just so...grown up! I wish him and his bride every happiness and I'm looking forward to celebrating their marriage on Friday. :-)

When Lizzie was here last time, we we went shopping and she was looking for shoes too, and couldn't find any that were comfortable. She has a high instep which seems puffy and is hard to find shoes that fit. What's up with my daughters!!!!
I also have sore feet and have not worn heels for like years!
