#549 sandwiches, hummingbirds and proper relaxing

My feet hurt today. I'm thankful that I haven't had to walk around a lot. I've mostly been sitting around reading a book and enjoying just chilling out at my parent's house.

Mom and I went to the Cuban bakery Portos for lunch. I had a Cuban sandwich. I've never had one before. It was porky. Pork-ful. Pulled pork and ham and Swiss cheese. They wanted to put pickles on it, but I declined (I hate pickles.) It was good. Quite filling. Very delicious. We also got assorted treats that we've been sampling throughout the day. Decadent!

This afternoon Dad and I went to the grocery store to get a few things for the next couple of days. Dad seems so much better than the last time I saw him in April. I'm glad that the treatment is working so well. :)

My parents have a great backyard. It's full of plants: tomatoes, basil, geraniums, lavender, strawberries, mums. There's a beautiful fountain from which the water bubbles in the most pleasing way. There's a bird feeder on the lawn to which little swallows and an occasional dove flock for lunch. There are hummingbird feeders hanging from the patio.

Hummingbirds kind of freak me out. They are so little and quick and unpredictable, at least until you sit there and watch, then there is a little predictability there. The one I was watching would fly to one feeder, make a little singing noise, then fly to a hanging potted geranium and perch there for awhile. Then he would fly to the other feeder, feed, make clicking sounds, feed some more, then move to the giant wind chime where he would sit and groom his long beak. He always moved in that pattern, for about half an hour or so. I wasn't freaked out anymore after that.

Now Dad is making one of his specialties, fried catfish, for dinner. I'm going to finish the book I'm reading, "The Peach Keeper" by Sarah Addison Allen, and we'll just watch some TV and relax tonight. I like being here because at home I'm often thinking of all the things I should be doing and I don't relax properly. That's not a problem today!

You are so lucky being able to see them for so long, the hummingbirds I mean. You know how much I love them and they were quite rare when I visited :-) I'm glad your Dad is doing better and that he even cooks again. Hope you had a good dinner. I know how good that is :-)
Big hugs to you all from Mia <3 <3
