I'm home again after what my mom called my "crap-cation" - like a vacation, but crappy circumstances.
This morning when Lizzie and I were at the hospital, the doctors removed the breathing tube, so we did have the chance to communicate with Dad a little before I had to leave. Under the circumstances, he's doing well. His vital signs are good and he says he isn't in any pain. The ICU doctors and his nurse, Gayle, have been really great and I think he is getting good care.
It goes without saying that my mind and a large part of my heart are still in California with my mom, dad and sister. If you could send a kind thought toward a hospital in Southern California, I would appreciate it.
