Today I returned the coat that MT gave me for Christmas. I felt bad about doing it because it is (was) a beautiful garment. It was black wool and went to my ankles. That was my problem with it - it went to my ankles. I'm not very tall and I felt a bit overwhelmed by the length of the coat.
I took it back to the store, Dillards, and they gave me a gift card with the amount of the coat. MT was very generous with the gift, so I had plenty to work with. I do want a wool coat, so I looked at everything they had and I found just the coat I wanted. It's still made by the same company as the long coat, and it's still black and still wool, but it comes to just below my knee. Perfect!
The bonus part - I still have around $70 left on the gift card. I decided to buy myself a new bag with the balance. I had just the bag in mind: a black leather tote bag that would hold my planning calendar and my Nook.
Here's what I learned: $73 won't get you much of a bag in Dillards. It certainly won't get you a black leather tote bag. I saw one I really liked, but the price was $325. I don't think there will ever be a time when I will think it's ok to spend $325 on a purse. But the leather was sooooo soft - it was like butter! Another one I liked was a little better at $235. Again, not gonna happen.
I finally saw a bag on the clearance rack that I liked. It was red and it was roomy. The price was right at $48 (marked down from $135) but it wasn't exactly what I wanted and it was more of a suede than a buttery leather. I carried it around for awhile, but I ended up putting it back. I know what I want and I don't want to settle for something else. I'm sure I'll find what I want somewhere else, maybe at Ross or TJ Maxx or Marshalls. I'll look around.
In the meantime, I have $70 to spend at Dillards sometime. I think it will be fun to look around the store. Maybe some perfume. Maybe a pretty sweater Or maybe even some shoes!
