She has the hairiest little dog feet! The hair grows between her pads and gets pretty thick. When it grows in thick like that, it's easier for foxtails and other little weeds to get in between her pads and stick in there. I meant to take her in to the groomer last weekend to have her feet trimmed, but I blew it off. Bad mistake on my part.
I noticed when we got to Petsmart that her front paw looked a little raw. I asked the groomer to check it out, and when she did, she saw that there were foxtails stuck in Osi's feet, one in the front foot and one on the back foot. I felt terrible. What a bad dog mom I am! Fortunately, there is a vet in Petsmart, so the groomer took Osi to the vet so they could have a look at it. The vet decided they should put Osi under some anesthesia to remove the foxtails. Now I really feel bad, and so does my wallet.
The good news is that now she is clean, her feet are trimmed and free of foxtails. She's also very tired. It was not a good, fun day for my sweet Osi.
You can see the owie on her front leg that is stretched out and on the back leg that's closest to the camera. :(
She has to take some pain killers and antibiotics for a few days. I have to do a better job of checking for foxtails every day and of keeping her feet nice and trimmed.
The vet reassured me that they see dogs with foxtails in their feet, ears and eyes every day. I know it's a normal part of spring here, but I still feel bad. I think I can prevent this problem by taking better care of my critter. I will do better!
