Today is the unofficial American holiday Superbowl Sunday. It is a day in which we gather around our televisions and watch a football game, commercials, and a half-time show. Typically Americans eat foods they probably don't normally eat, and we partake in more adult beverages than on an average day.
It's a thing.
I love sports and I look forward to the Superbowl because it is the championship of American professional football. There have been some years when we have indulged in "traditional" Superbowl foods like chips and dip, chips and guacamole, chicken wings and stuff like that. This year we aren't eating those foods. Both MT and I are watching what we eat, and T isn't here, so it's just a normal day for us although I have declared I won't be doing much after 4:30 pm (kick-off time).
A thing that is interesting about the Superbowl is that I (and probably lots of people) don't get up and move around during the commercials. Advertising time during the Superbowl is Super Expensive so advertisers tend to get Super Creative for the ads. There have been TV shows made to determine what is the best Superbowl commercial of all time. Tomorrow morning, social media will be full of opinions about what this year's best ad is.
The half-time show is typically another spectacle. For the past 20 plus years, the half-time entertainment has been a major musical artist or artists and the shows have been fun to watch. This year the half-time show is from Justin Timberlake. He just put out a new CD and is going on tour, so it all works out well for JT. I like his music and I'll be happy to watch.
In the meantime, I'm doing some bulk cooking (a roast, taco meat and white chicken chili). I'm doing laundry. I went to the grocery store and also to Kohls to get a few new shirts to wear when I go to the gym. I'm starting back at the gym tomorrow. I haven't been since mid-December. It will be good to get back in the habit.
Two and a half hours until kick-off.
