#2545 today's best: new shoes

 Happy May, yo, and welcome to my almost mid-year daily post month! (New in 2021!) 

As I was thinking about what to write today, I thought about sticking with my regular daily themes. Saturday's theme is usually about how I spent my day. My day had a rough start. Let's just say that the dogs weren't feeling well and there was a lot of cleaning up to be done in the early morning hours. I thought to myself that the seven of you don't want to read about dog puke and then going to Red Butte Garden again, so I made a decision. This month, each post will be about the best thing that happened to me during the day. 

Today, with the exception of the start of the day, has actually been pretty good overall. There is one thing, though, that I am happiest about: I bought a new pair of Birkenstocks!

I used to wear Birks almost exclusively when I lived in Idaho. It was the early '90s and Birks were the shit. Maybe they are not extremely attractive, but they are extremely comfortable once you get them worn in. I can't even tell you how many pairs of Birks I wore out, and it takes awhile for them to wear out. I haven't had a new pair for a long time, although I have a couple of pairs of sandals that are sorry imitations. 

One of my co-workers was wearing a cute pair of Birks the other day, and I am not ashamed to admit that I had shoe jealousy. I've been thinking about getting a pair for weeks. Today I got an email from Famous Footwear that they had some new styles of Birkenstocks that just came in. I got a separate email from Famous Footwear today telling me that I had $15 in credit there from their loyalty program that expired today. It was like the shoe gods were practically pushing me into the store to get the shoes. Who am I to deny all those signs?

I didn't get the same super-cute sandal that my friend at work has. I went with the tried and true old-school Arizona model in mocha.

Ahhh! I'm just so happy to have them. They are going to look great with jeans, with capris, or with skirts. For the last few years, flip flops have been my go-to shoe, but I think this year, I'm going to get my money's worth out of these Birkenstocks.
