The best thing about today, at least so far, is that I went to Lowe's and got some more flowers to put on the deck. My yard is rocky, and my dogs are destructive, so I keep pots of flowers on the deck in the summer instead of in the ground. I've been doing flowers on the deck for a few years now. Last year I had lots of flowers and I loved it so much that I wanted to have lots of flowers this year, too.
Look at tje bottom photo and I'll walk you through the plants. Nearest to us is a pot of white and red geraniums. Next is a pot of African daisies. They are multi-colored with yellow and purple. Next is a single yellow dahlia, and after that (the fourth pot) is Gerbera daisies. There are two plants in there, a dark red and a yellow. After that is another pot of geraniums. There is pink and red in there. Then there is another pot of yellow dahlias. In the clay pot is a lavender that I hope survives. I think I have overwatered it. Lavender doesn't need too much water. It grows so beautifully at Red Butte Garden, but I haven't been very successful with it. Then, at the end, in the blue pot, are orange gazinias.
I'd really like to get a couple of little pine trees to put in the corners of the deck there and put twinkle lights on them. I think it would be so cute! I do have twinkle lights on half of the deck railing, and I totally love it. I had them on the whole rail, but we had a mishap with one set last year and I didn't get around to replacing it.
The next thing I'll do is fill the hummingbird feeder and put it up in the big bush you can see in the top photo on the left. That's where I hung it last year and I did have hummingbirds stop by. Also last year I put up a seed sock in the tree on the right, but Mac figured out to to jump up and destroy it, so I may not do that this year. I'll probably put a seed sock in the trees in the front yard though. I like watching the finches come to feed while I'm sitting on the back deck, but Harley and Mac are both hunting-type dogs who like birds, so it probably won't work out very well. They already chase around any birds that come into the yard. Savages.
I say the best part of the day so far has been putting flowers on the deck, but I'm holding out hope that more fun is on the way. Tonight is Game 4 of the Jazz/Grizzlies first round series. MT, T, and I are going to a local sports bar for dinner and to watch the game. I'm hoping the place won't be too crowded and, of course, that the Jazz win. The Jazz are up two games to one in the best of seven series.
And now it is the end of May. I have enjoyed finding the best things in each day. I only missed one day of writing - the day my car was rear-ended on the highway. I couldn't summon up the good vibes to write that night, to be honest. Mom commented that she hoped I would keep writing about the best things of the day, so I will make an effort to include positive stuff. I will go back to writing every other day in June, started on Wednesday the 2nd.
I hope you had a great weekend. Go Jazz!
