In a few minutes I’ll be heading up to Red Butte Garden for my third show this year and the second this week. Tonight’s performer is Travis Tritt. I’ve heard of him - he’s a country artist - but I don’t know his music. Dutifully, I did listen to some songs from his Essentials list on Apple Music today. A couple of country music fans I spoke to at work told me he puts on a good show. I’m expecting to see a lot more beer cans than wine bottles tonight.
Mat Kearney, who I saw on Wednesday night, was quite good. He had the crowd dancing and singing along all night. He was all about the music, playing song after song, with only a few talking breaks. I liked the show a lot! Afterward, one of the other volunteers handed me a piece of paper. It was Kearney’s set list from off the stage. I don’t know how she got it, but it was nice of her to give it to me. Another fun tidbit: I posted a pic of the show on IG and Mat Kearney liked it
I have another show on Sunday - Wilco with someone else. This is my busiest concert week with three shows. I don’t have another one until the 17th.
Today is extremely smoky. This morning a little cold front moved in with some winds that brought in a whole bunch of smoke from California. There was also a fire south of Salt Lake that contributed to the crappy air. It happened really fast. A couple of my co-workers went out to walk around the track around 9:30 and the sky was blue. When they came back in 15 minutes later, both of them clearing their throats and wiping their eyes, the whole world was brownish. I could smell and taste the smoke even in the building. MT texted me to find out if it was smoky where I was because it was really smoky where he was on the east side of town. The mountains have been completely blocked out by the smoke. It’s gross. I kinda wish I didn’t have to go to the concert tonight, to be honest, just because of the air quality. I hope it clears up in the next couple of days.
Have a good weekend! Talk to you here on Sunday!
