ode to the library

One of my earliest childhood memories is of my mom and I going to the library. She didn't drive, so she put me in the child seat on the back of her bike and off we'd go. Later she put my sister in the bike seat and I rode alongside them, through the tree-lined streets of our southern Idaho town. I must have read those Laura Ingalls Wilder books a million times when I was a kid. I wanted to be a librarian when I grew up. We played library at our house. I did work at the university library when I was in college. I'm not a librarian, but I still love the library. To think that you can choose from all those books...and it's free! I went to the library on Friday and walked out of there with 5 new books. Awesome!

My mom reads a lot; so does my dad and my sister. I married an avid reader and fortunately our son loves to read also. When people tell me they don't have time to read, I feel bad for them. I probably won't ever go to India or Turkey, but I've read books about people in those places. Some people won't even visit those places in fiction. That's just sad.
