My friend LA and I always used to say that the best day in a vacation countdown is the day before the day before you leave. It's when you know that you get to leave really soon. You get to leave the day after tomorrow. That makes today the best day in my vacation countdown!
This morning I went over to Coldwater Creek to get a new outfit. I ordered a dress from their catalog and MT thought it looked so good he told me to go get another dress. You don't say no to that! Sadly, they didn't have any of the dresses in the shop, so instead I got a pretty skirt, top and earrings. It took me a long time to pick it out. I tried on a lot of stuff until I found something that I really like. It's a cute outfit, appropriate for "formal night" but still casual, since that's really how I am.
I packed all my clothes tonight. MT packed his clothes, too, so tomorrow we'll take care of T's suitcase and make sure we have all the personal toiletry items. I don't think I have to tell you how excited we are. This will be our third Caribbean vacation, and it has the potential to the be best. I mean, nearly a week at a five-star resort in the Dominican Republic then a seven night cruise to exotic islands aboard a beautiful cruise ship? I'm feeling pretty dang lucky.
Earlier this week my friend K told one of our new co-workers that MT and I work for vacation. I guess that's true. MT and I were talking about it tonight. We think we are pretty frugal most of the year. Neither of us buys a lot of extra stuff. We don't buy a lot of clothes, except before going on vacation. We think going out for dinner at Johnny Carinos is splurging. We buy stuff for the rental property and to improve the house, but we don't buy many luxury items because we save our money for vacation.
There are lots of other places we want to visit besides the Caribbean. We just haven't gotten around to them yet. We nearly went to Fiji this year, but decided it was going to exceed our budget. Interestingly, this vacation to the Dominican Republic just about hits the same dollar amount as 10 days in Fiji including air, so we could have done it. Fiji, and the South Pacific in general, is definitely still on the list.
Oh! I don't think I ever mentioned my new video camera. I went to the Associated General Contractors (AGC) convention a couple of weeks ago. I won a door prize and it was a little digital video camera. It will also take pictures and play mp3s. I played with it a little bit today at T's basketball game. If I can figure out how to do it, I'll try to post a clip of his basketball playing here. Don't hold your breath, though. I don't know if 1) I can get it from the camera to my computer and 2)if I can get it from my computer to this blog. I'll try!
