#83 St. Kitts

I'm skipping around again, but I was thinking about St. Kitts this morning, so here we go.

We were in St. Kitts on Monday Feb. 11. It was my second visit to the island; I'd been there before in February 2006. This time we arrived in the afternoon around 2:30. MT went snorkeling. T and I went on a beach break to Frigate Bay beach.

There wasn't really anything exceptional or remarkable about the beach, to be honest. The sand is gray because there is volcanic material in it. That was really different from the powdery white sand of the Dominican Republic. There were lots of shells on this beach and T spent a lot of time gathering shells and thinking about how much he thought he could see them for on E-Bay or to his friends. His dream figure: $247. Reality: $0.

We played in the water, splashing around and looking at shells and rocks. T got thirsty and bought a Sprite at the beach bar. I bought Carib brand beer from the beer man - 2 Caribs for $3! - and we read, then splashed around and drank our beverages. It was a nice afternoon!

We spent about two and a half hours there, then headed back to the ship. We met up with MT and walked into town to see if we could find some bamboo wind chimes that MT was sure he'd seen there two years ago. I told him the wind chime store was on Antigua, but he didn't believe me. Sure enough, I was right. The store he thought he remembered wasn't there, although not much has changed in downtown Basseterre in two years. The Port Zante terminal area has changed a lot. Last time we were there, the stores were just being built. Now they are all done and the stores and really nice and clean and new. We bought a few t-shirts before heading back to the ship.

We didn't have a lot of time in St. Kitts because we arrived there at 2:30 and left around 7:30. It was still a fun day for me!

Notes about photos: The top one is a pic of my toes and the sea as I am sitting on the beach in St. Kitts. The second is T playing in the waves. The third is some pretty flowers and The Circus, the heart of downtown Basseterre. The bottom pic is T and MT in front of our ship, the Legend of the Seas. I took all the photos with my Canon.
