#90 80s flashback!

I have a stamp on my hand. It's from a bar. I don't remember the last time I had a stamp on my hand from a bar. I've tried scrubbing it off, along with the smoke and beer smells that were trapped in my hair. No more smoke and beer, and the stamp is lighter, but it's still there, a little reminder of the fun I had on Saturday night.

Saturday night was like a play in two acts. The first act was our credit union's annual meeting. We have a credit union at our company, located in our office. I've been volunteering in the credit union for about ten years now and I've been the chairman of the board of directors for four or five years now, I guess. I lose track of the time. It's part of what I do at work. I was re-elected last night. Good thing, because I was the only candidate!

The credit union meeting is held at a hotel downtown . We have a dinner, the business part of the meeting, and give away door prizes. Then it's done. We wrapped it up pretty quickly this year, so there was about an hour and a half before the party bus was coming to pick me up for Kelsie's bachelorette party, the second act of my night. MT and T left me in the hotel bar where I happily watched the Jazz game on TV while sipping rum and coke and snacking on chips and salsa. (Note: the hotel bar was a bar/restaurant and according to Utah liquor laws, you have to have some food to go with your drinks. Hence the chips and salsa even though I'd just had a prime rib dinner.)

I was picked up at the hotel by the party bus. Inside were 16 or 17 ladies in various states of drunkenness. All I can say is that must have been some wild bridal shower! I was handed a keg cup of Boone's and champagne, and encouraged to jump in the van. We rocked out to some Prince (Kiss), a country song about saving a horse and riding a cowboy (an ode to the groom-to- be, I think) and AC/DC (Abby's favorite, You Shook Me All Night Long).

Soon we were at the bar, Liquid Joe's. I've never been there before, but I was reassured when it looked just like most of the bars I hung out in during my hanging out in bars days. Even the music was familiar, all 80s! I hung out with a couple of lovely twins that are friends of the bride and we had a beer. We made our way to find a spot on the dance floor, since the band, The Spazmatics, would soon take the stage.

They began with a kickin' medley of Duran Duran songs. They also played some Depeche Mode, Madonna, INXS, Devo (yes, we Whipped It!) Cars, and Billy Idol. It was very satisfying for me. I swayed on the dance floor, holding a giant mug of beer, laughing and singing along, watching the people around me. There was a lot of hopping and shimmying going on. I don't remember that we moved our feet much when we danced in the actual 80s. I remember our feet were pretty much in one place and the rest of our bodies moved around. Dancing in the 80s was like those billowing balloon-type things you see outside of gas stations sometimes. They are anchored to the ground and some air is blown through it so the arms and body move all around spaztically. That's how 80s dancing is done, and that's how I did it last night. It was awesome! And it's a lot easier on your joints than bopping all around. But that just makes me sound old.

And yes, it is completely possible that I was one of the oldest people in the room that night. That didn't stop some random guy who had been hovering around bachelorette party group, telling all the girls how gorgeous they were from bumping up against me, doing some type of icky dirty dancing that had me laughing and thinking, "I am way too old for this sh*@!"

I ended up leaving a little after midnight, catching a ride with my friend Jane, a DD. (Thanks Janie!) I was excited to be included in Kelsie's group on her big night o'fun. I had a blast!
