What a busy week! It seems like we always had something going on in the evenings.
This recap is pretty long. You want to read it though, because there is a lot of random anecdotes that hopefully will make you smile and/or want to comment.
Monday - basketball practice for T, then I went shopping at Kohls because I had Kohls cash which expired that night. I had to use it! I bought gloves. I have a glove-thing going on this year. I think it's because I couldn't find any gloves when it first started getting cold, and my hands really suffered. They got so cold and dry that they started to crack a little in three spots. That hurts. Now I have like, five pairs of gloves or mittens. I even double my gloves up when I wear them so my hands are nice and toasty. You have to do that when it's about six degrees. More on that later.
Tuesday - the finale of "The Biggest Loser." Danny from Oklahoma was the winner. He lost 239 pounds. Holy shit! That's a person!! He didn't even look like the same guy. Both of the men in the final had incredible weight loss. Danny just barely edged out Rudy. Very cool. I like that show a lot.
I also have to say that on Tuesday we had a big snowstorm in the morning. My commute was dreadful. It took me 90 minutes to get to work - usually about a 25 minute drive. The bad part was that it snowed and then the temperature dropped significantly and everything froze, so it was icy and scary. Of course, when you're only going about 15 mph, you're probably going to be ok. It wasn't just me going 15, either! I was worried that if I stopped, I wouldn't be able to get going again, that my wheels would just spin. I watched that happen in the drop-off area of T's school. It was crazy.
It did stop snowing, but then the big chill set in and it was frigid the rest of the week.
Wednesday - dinner at Log Haven Restaurant with my work group. When you ask someone about Log Haven, the first thing they usually say is how nice it is. It is lovely. (check out the link) The restaurant is located about four miles up a canyon. It's dark up there. If you didn't know the place was up there, you'd probably want to turn around. I knew it was there, so MT kept driving. Anyway, our group was seated in a small room near a fireplace. It was cold in there, but we were told that when everyone got there and with the fire going, the room would warm up. The problem was that the fire kept going out. It was one of those gas fires and the pilot light kept going out, so we never really got warm. Our server suggested jumping jacks would get us warmed up. WTF?
The food was nice. I had swordfish with wasabi mashed potatoes, green papaya slaw and burdock root. Did I mention Log Haven has fancy food with some items you've never heard of before? Burdock root? What is that? On my plate it was kind of a reddish-purple sticky stick-like thing. I didn't taste it (no surprise) but MT and others did and declared that it tasted like a stick. There was some kind of sweet sticky sauce covering the root that I did taste when I picked up the root and put it on MT's plate. Ok, so the fish and the potatoes were good. The papaya thing didn't have much flavor to me. It was crunchy, though. The carrot cake we had for dessert was extremely dry. I had mint tea also which never really steeped because the room was so cold that my hot water got cold quickly, so the tea wasn't good.
The best part of the meal, aside from the company which was very pleasant and enjoyable, was the French martinis I drank. I had two. They were delicious. I've never had a martini before. The French martini has Chambord in it so it's pink and sweet. MMMM.
Thursday - puppy training class. I thought it was graduation night, but it wasn't. That's next week. There were only two dogs in the class, Osi and Bella. Bella is a little tiny Maltese. I really liked having the class with just two dogs. We practiced all the things we've learned so far and talked about the next class level. We'll be doing that. I like having a dog who will do what I ask, but she needs more training.
Friday - the Company Christmas party. It was held in a town a little north of SLC, and it took us about 30 or 40 minutes to get there. We had a couple of drinks (white wine for me) and a nice dinner, then we played BlackJack for a couple of hours for a chance to win raffle tickets for the fabulous prizes. Well, the prizes weren't exactly fabulous, but they were nice, however, we didn't win any. We had a good time, though. We got home at 11:30. Poor MT had to work this morning, so he was tired.
Today I've been busy busy busy. I was up early for cycling and the weigh in. (I gained .6 lbs; I was ok with that considering that I attended three parties from last Saturday to Friday and I ate and drank well at all three.) I didn't stay for the actuall WW meeting because T had an early basketball game this week, so I rushed home to change and get him to his game. His team won by so many points that the score was erased. The other team only scored one point, poor things. T has been on a team like that, and it really sucks.
T played well. No points yet. He was very good on defense and had a few steals. He was playing the two guard position so he handled the ball more than he's used to and he turned the ball over "every time I touched the ball" he said. I don't know if that's true, but that's how he felt. He's learning. I saw some improvement over last week, and I'm sure next week there will be improvement again.
After that we did a little grocery shopping and when we got home I made a really tasty meaty chili and let that simmer in the crock pot all day long. I served it over rice after I picked Jake, Linda, Aunt Jennie and Aunt Pat up from the airport. They were returning from their two week cruise that went through the Panama Canal. They said it was really wonderful. I thought they might stay the night, but they were anxious to get back home. I can't blame them. Once you get off the cruise ship, the vacation is over and you just want to go home.
I did other stuff throughout the day, too, but I won't bore you any more with the minor details.
I did watch the Jazz beat up on the Lakers tonight. I love it when the Jazz beat the Lakers! The Jazz had to redeem themselves for the beating they took in Los Angeles...when was it? Earlier this week, I guess. The Jazz only scored six points in the fourth quarter of that game. Yuck! That's not good. It was good to see the Jazz win and play well. They had a tough schedule this week: at the Lakers (loss), Spurs here (win), Orlando here (win), Lakers here (win)!! The team is about to head out on the annual pre-Christmas roadtrip which is always tough for them. The Jazz are not very good on the road as a rule. Hopefully they'll use the momentum they got this week to propel them to wins on the road.
One more thing to share. I had a little mishap with the bike in cycling class this morning. It happened when class was over and I was trying to put my bike away. Those suckers are kinda heavy and you have to tilt it toward you because there are wheels on the front of it, then you push it back up against the wall. Well, when I was tilting the bike forward, it kinda squished my ring-finger toe, just for a split second, but it was enough to bruise the toe pretty badly. Toes are so delicate. I don't think it's broken, but it's so sore and purple. :o(
That's all I've got for tonight. It's time for sleeping!
