#1079 in 2014 I resolve to...

Hello and happy new year! I've been off work for the past week and a half, and I have to go back to the office tomorrow. I'm ok with that. I'm ready to go. Doesn't hurt that there's only two days left in the week. :)

MT and I have binge-watched the TV show Scandal. He suggested that for these last few days of our break that we binge watch something. I picked the show because I heard it was good and it was. We watched 29 episodes, seasons one and two in the past three or four days. We stayed up until 2AM a couple of nights watching the show. We are addicted. I think the last time we watched a TV series all in a clump like that was before T was born. A lot of times we don't like the same shows and we end up in different rooms watching what we like, so it was fun to bond over Olivia and her group. Both of us love the character of Huck.

Anyway...

Because it's a new year, because I put up new calendars and I always think I can be different/better/improved/whatever when the calendar changes, I have of course come up with some resolutions for 2014. There are a lot of little things I say I'm going to do like stop swearing so much (truly, I have a potty mouth and I need to stop that behavior), put lotion on my feet every night, and text my mother at least once a week, but those aren't really resolutions. They are things I want to do to and I will try to remember them. They need to become habits, right?

A real resolution is the determination to accomplish something. A firm decision to do something. Firm determination. A state of being resolute. There are two things I am in firm determination of doing this year.

1. Lose weight. In 2008, I joined Weight Watchers with the goal of losing 100 pounds. I did not reach that goal; the closest I came was in 2010 when I was down 93 pounds from my original weight. Then I went on a spectacular vacation and drank gallons of pina coladas and ate rich, delicious food and I didn't really bounce back from that. I have not regained all of the weight, but I have gained back a significant amount. I've been thinner and I've been fatter and I prefer thinner, thank you very much. I want to get back to thinner.

My first resolution is to lose 40 pounds this year. That's around four pounds a month with a couple of months leeway. It will be a challenge because let's face it, I'm kind of lazy and I like to eat crappy food. I'll have to pull out my old WW material for guidance and practice some will power and a little selfishness to make it happen. I'm excited about it and I feel confident about the goal. One day at a time. I'll keep you posted.

2. Declutter my home. I'm a little bit of a pack-rat. MT is too, although he always says he hates clutter. He does, but he stashes it away where you can't see it so much. I learned that from him. Now we have closets that are full of stuff we don't need and don't use. We have a room in the basement that is filled with boxes of stuff we haven't opened since we've lived in this house - that's eleven years.

My second resolution is to de-clutter a room or a closet in the house every month. Some will be quick, like clearing out the coat closet on the main floor or getting rid of old stuff (makeup, nearly empty bath gel containers) in the bathroom. Some will take longer (that office is a mess!), but we'll get it done. I've talked to MT about this goal and he's excited to work on it with me.

I've been thinking about these goals/resolutions for the past week and a half, and it feels good to write them down and share them with you. I know that everyone says they are going to lose weight and/or get more organized in January. I hope that you will help me stay on track and hold me accountable for what I'm writing here tonight. I could really use your good vibes and positive reinforcement!

Look at the time! It's nearly midnight and my alarm will go off at 5:30 tomorrow morning. Maybe another habit I should try to get into is going to bed a bit earlier every night. I'll see if I can squeeze that one in, but texting my mom every week was her resolution for me, so that will take priority :)

Talk to you tomorrow!

Great resolotions Sandy. I really do hope (and believe) you will fulfill them this year!
I have stopped giving resolotions because I don't think I can keep them. If I give a resolotion it won't be a New Year's one.
When I stopped smoking on Jan 6 1997 I said that on December 1 1996. That was my resolotion day and I prepared that month. I told everyone what I wanted to do and I mentally prepared. On January 5 I smoke my last cigarette and I haven't smoked since!
But that's me :-)
I will for sure try to cheer you on this year and I am certain you will make it!
Hugs and kisses to you and your family. Love you <3

That's so weird! I also wrote on my personal resolutions to "improve one room per month." Great minds, my dear!
