Yesterday it was my birthday
I hung one more year on the line
I should be depressed
My life's a mess
But I'm having a good time
-Paul Simon, Have a Good Time
Yesterday really was my birthday, but my life's not a mess and I'm not depressed, but I'm a having a good time :) I just like that song and the first couple of lines are applicable today!
Sometimes I like to take the day of my birthday off from work, but it wasn't possible to do that this year. I work in a business office in an accounting role and the fourth business day of the month is THE day where we close the books on the previous month. The fourth business day happened to be the fifth calendar day, so I was super busy at work yesterday. It was okay, though. My friends gave me a delicious beverage from Starbucks (passion tea lemonade, one of my favorites!) and we had a nice lunch, too.
When I got home, T and MT gave me gifts. MT gave me a gift certificate to Lands End. I told him that I was going to buy a bathing suit (or two) from Land's End. Now maybe I'll buy a cover-up and some shorts or something, too! T gave me a hammock. We had been to Costco last weekend and I had pointed out a few things to give him some ideas, and the hammock was one of those things. It wasn't what I expected, though. He usually gives me a movie or two and I had pointed out a couple of those, also. I'll set up that hammock this weekend!
Mom and Dad sent me an iTunes gift card. I do love music and I appreciate getting iTunes gift cards. The thing about me is that I am a gift card hoarder. I hold on to gift cards because I think that if I spend them now then later I'll be sad because I will want something more than what I bought with the gift card in the first place. It's ridiculous. I have a couple of gift cards from some nice stores that I've had for a couple of years because I'm weird like that. Sometimes gift cards start to devalue if you hold on to them for too long. I know that and I still don't use them.
So I have a lot of iTunes gift cards right now. I have made a promise to myself that this weekend I will spend gift card that Mom and Dad sent yesterday. There are four albums (do we still call them albums?) that I want to buy: new releases from the Black Keys, Coldplay, One Republic and the Broadway soundtrack for Wicked. Plus there are a bunch of singles, old and new, that I'd like to have.
I got something else yesterday too but it was just a happy coincidence that the package came on my birthday. We got our packet from the travel agent for our trip to Mexico! YAHOO! We know we are getting close when we get the package from Marcie. We're about six weeks away from going to Isla Mujeres. I'm really looking forward to it!
My BFF LA is coming down to visit tomorrow and we are going shopping. I need some new clothes and I will use gift cards to buy the new clothes! She recommended that I jot down a list of things that I would like to buy so we have a good idea of what to look for. I have some thoughts in my head, but nothing written down. I'll do that tonight.
Have a great weekend. eTalk to you on Sunday :)
