#1240 The Hundred-Foot Journey

The boys decided to go see the new Sin City movie tonight, so I am home alone. I was sort of watching a movie on TV (Step Brothers) but I was also reading and looking at my phone. I'm not very focused tonight, I guess.

I haven't been to the movies for a few weeks, but the last movie I saw, The Hundred-Foot Journey, I actually saw twice in a row. :) The Thursday before my trip to California, I went to see the movie with MT, then I saw it again with my sister on Saturday. I really did like it enough to see it twice in three days; I've thought about going to see it again (but don't tell my mom. She would freak out.)

What did I like so much about the film? For one thing, it was very beautiful. Lasse Hallstrom directed it and he makes beautiful movies that make you want to visit the location where the story takes place. The story in this film takes place in France, like another film Hallstrom directed, Chocolat, that made me want to go to a small French village. So number one, the film is visually appealing for the location.

Second, Helen Mirren. She's great and I love to watch her in movies. She seems so classy.

Third, I like food movies and books and TV shows. This film is about an Indian family that has always had a restaurant and they end up in this gorgeous French village and happen to open their restaurant across the street from a Michelin star restaurant. I admit that I wanted to eat at the Indian restaurant much more than at the fancy French place.

Fourth, the story and characters are sweet. The dad of the Indian family is delightful. The feud between Madame Mallory and Papa is comical and to watch them turn from competitors to friends is great. The relationship between Hassan and Marguerite, ahhh, it's lovely. 

Finally, the people in the film were very attractive.

Helen (can I call her that?) plays Madame Mallory, the something important at the French restaurant. She speaks French, she wears clothes beautifully, she's a hoity and softens throughout the show and is a joy to watch.

Charlotte Le Bon

Charlotte playes Marguerite. She's the sous chef at the French restaurant. To me, she is exactly what I imagine a French lady looks like. Her hair is amazing - perfectly curled to look very natural and unfussy. She has beautiful eyes and lips and her teeth are just slightly crooked. She has the most adorable accent and she wears the cutest, simplest dresses in the movie. I want to be like her. :)

And then there is Manish. He's Hassan, and he is completely watchable at all times. When he is the innocent Indian cook at the family restaurant, trying to learn to cook French cuisine; when he learns to be a chef at the French restaurant; when he goes to Paris to become the toast of the French culinary world, he's gorgeous. Those eyes! That smile! That stubble! I fell a little bit in love ;)

I mean, look at him!

Please make another movie soon. I will go see it!

So if you are looking for a nice film to watch, I really suggest The Hundred-Foot Journey. It will make you smile, make you want to go to France and probably make you hungry, too.
