On Friday morning when I went into the office, the ladies were all a-buzz. I didn't know what was causing all the excitement, but I found out soon enough. One of the employees had come in after hours on Thursday, cleaned out her office and left us. No note, no nothing. Just took her personal items and her name tag and left her key on the desk. Who does that?!
The rest of the staff was awesome. Everyone (including me) took a piece of what the lady had been doing and said they could handle the extra work until we found someone else to fill the position.
I thought that the lady who left might be applying for other jobs, but I sure didn't expect her to just clear out after hours without a word. Oh well. As always, there is more to the story than I will tell here, but I thought the way she departed was worth a mention.
Now comes the fun part of interviewing people. I do like to meet and chat with people who apply, but it's a big responsibility to bring a new person into an established, hard-working group. There have been many times when the person I spoke with on Wednesday, a person I thought would fit into the group well and be a good team member, turned out to be completely different on Monday morning when they actually came to work. It's also a little annoying when the rest of the department thinks that they could do a better job of finding the next co-worker. If someone else wants to interview the candidates, I say, "Go ahead and good luck and don't be cranky when I criticize your choices. Oh, and by the way, didn't I hire you?" (heehee)
Anyway...my days just got a little busier and I'm fine with that for now. Good thing I took a day off last Tuesday because it might be the last one I have until Thanksgiving.
Oh my gosh, I almost didn't write about sports. I'll fix that!
On Saturday night the Utes beat the UCLA Bruins! UCLA was ranked number 8 in the country and Utah beat them on the Bruins home field, the Rose Bowl. YAY!! Now Utah is ranked #24 in the country.
Go Utes!
