#1279 we watch movies

We went to see The Judge this afternoon. Full disclosure: I would pay the matinee price to watch Robert Downey Jr. sit in an easy chair and read the Dr. Seuss collection. I find him extremely attractive and watchable, so that was one positive for this movie before it even started. Second, Robert Duvall is also one of my favorites, although for entirely different reasons. Gus McCrae is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time, and Robert Duvall is Gus McCrae, so there's that, too.

The good news is that I liked this movie just for itself. Sure, it was great the Downey and Duvall were there, but it was still a good story. Duvall's character was mean and prickly, but he could be nice, too. It was really a character-driven movie. There were several times when I teared up, but I cry at just about every movie. MT liked the film; T liked it too, although he says it's not as good as Gone Girl. I would agree with that statement, but it was still good.

Last night we rented Million Dollar Arm On Demand.  MT and I always say that you can't go wrong with a sports movie, and this film was no exception. The story is that Jon Hamm's character is a down-on-his-luck sports agent who travels to India to find cricket bowlers that he can turn into major league pitchers. He holds a competition, finds his guys and brings them back to the US to train with a pitching coach and eventually holds a try-out for the Indian pitchers. Here's the thing: I just don't really like Jon Hamm. He doesn't seem real to me and I didn't like his character either. Even at the end when he kind of becomes nice, I still didn't like him. I liked all the Indian guys though. My favorite part of this movie is that it is based on a true story and I thought all the real photos of the guys and the videos that were included at the end during the credits were very cool.

I finished a book! Check out the 2014 Reading List page for deets. Scroll to the bottom for most recent book.
