#2162 weekend wrap-up

Saturday and Sunday could not have been more different. I spent most of the day Saturday running around and being busy, and most of the day Sunday chilling around the house and just doing what I had to get done.

On Saturday, MT and I spent the afternoon shopping for vacation clothing, mostly for him. He got a couple of pairs of shoes and we both got some pants that we can wear when we are visiting the temples. Knees and shoulders must be covered when you visit the Buddha. The kicker it is that it will be hot temperatures and you need to be comfortable. We bought moisture-wicking fabrics so hopefully we will be okay. These really aren't pants I would ever wear to work. I don't know what I'm going to do with them in the long term. I'm just hopeful they will serve me well on this vacation.

After a few hours of spending money like we had some, we decided to go to the movies. You know it is Oscar season, and every year I have a goal of seeing all of the Best Picture nominees.  This year is pretty amazing because I've already seen half of the nominees. I don't know if that has ever happened to me before. If you don't know, the nominees are:

Black Panther (seen it - twice!)
BlacKkKlansman (seen it)
Bohemian Rhapsody (seen it)
A Star is Born (seen it)
Vice
The Favourite
Roma
Green Book

Yesterday we saw Green Book. I didn't know too much about it except that Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen are in it. I had no idea what the title refers to. Come to find out, a Green Book was a guide to "coloreds only" hotels in the Deep South back in the '50s and '60s. Ali plays Dr. Donald Shirley, a virtuoso pianist and leader of the Don Shirley Trio. The trio embarks on a concert tour of the Deep South and Dr. Shirley needs a driver/bodyguard, played by Mortensen. These two men have absolutely nothing in common, and each looks at the other like they are from a different planet. To watch how their attitudes and perceptions change during the course of the film is lovely. The men are fine actors and it is a nice movie.

I thought that today I might go see The Favourite or Vice, but it didn't work out, which is fine. Today I mostly puttered around the house. It's been a quiet day and I like that.

After all the shopping, I think I have everything I want to take with me to Cambodia and Thailand. We'll be gone for a couple of weeks, but we have decided to pack for one week and have our clothes laundered at the hotel in Krabi. Maybe in Phuket too, but we'll see how we're doing. My suitcase is not all that big; I've used it as a carry-on. I always pack too much, so I'm looking forward to this challenge. I get worried that I won't have enough or the right things. This vacation is kind of interesting because I really don't know what to expect. It's gonna be fun.

Hope y'all had a great weekend!
