You probably don't follow the NBA off-season like I have been this summer. Most of the teams will have different players in the fall because there has been a lot of trading and free agents signing with new teams over the past couple of weeks.
The Jazz will have two or three new starters which means that some of the players that have been on the team the past couple of seasons have had to move on. One of those players is my favorite book club leader, Ekpe Udoh. He signed a big contract with the Beijing Ducks in Chinese Basketball Association. I truly wish him well and hope he has a fantastic season over there. I have had the pleasure of meeting Ekpe a couple of times through his book club. He is so nice and friendly. He didn't get a lot of playing time with the Jazz and I'm sure that has something to do with his choice to move to China.
I wonder if he will continue to run the book club while he is overseas. When he was in Turkey a few years ago I think he still had the book club. I hope he does. He picks interesting books and I really like the conversations the group has. Several of the local book club members have suggested that we meet up here in town, even though Ekpe won't be there. It will be interesting to see if that happens.
We just started a book and our first meeting about it will be on Thursday. We already have the whole schedule. I don't know when Ekpe will head to China. I wonder if he'll say anything about it on Thursday. Probably not. He usually just focuses on the books. He's good about that.
Even if you don't care, I'll keep you updated!
PS If you click on the link for the book club above and go to the gallery, I am in several of the group photos :)
