#2263 Red Butte Garden in autumn

Late this morning I went to Red Butte Garden to check out what is blooming in the Children's Garden. As you can imagine, there aren't many plants that are still actively blooming, so it didn't take very long to do the job. It did leave me plenty of time to walk through the garden to see what it looks like in the fall. RBG is beautiful all the time and it changes from week to week throughout the year. Today I felt that I got a good look at the beauty of autumn in this magnificent place. Since you couldn't be there to walk through with me, I took some photos. (There's a lot! Hope you don't mind.)

This beautiful pop of red among the sage green and yellow and brown is in the upper section of the Children's Garden.

The waterfall in the Children's Garden has been shut down for the season and most of the flowers in the rock garden near the waterfall are done blooming, except for the darling little white chrysanthemums along the top of the wall. I liked all the colors here. And look at that blue sky! I did not edit or filter this photo. It was just that kind of day.

I've walked past these pine trees before, but they don't have this same appearance in the summer. In the autumn they take on this white-ish hue. Appropriately, they are called Golden Ghosts.

You know that I could not possibly post an RBG photo series without a photo of the waterfall. The flow has slowed, but it's still spectacular.

These grasses are growing alongside the pond. In the summer the fronds are green. I love the feathery whiteness of them in the autumn.

I have always liked the reflection of the trees on the pond. So many colors!

Red Butte Creek flows down through Red Butte Canyon into the Garden itself in a series of ponds. This little waterfall is above the main pond and the big waterfall. Sometimes you can't see it very well because there are so many flowers and grasses around the edges. Those have been cleared away, making the view pretty special.

The photo below is the entrance to the wildflower meadow. Of course, no wildflowers are blooming right now, but the trees sure are changing.

From the second highest lookout in the Water Conservation Garden, there is this vista into Red Butte Canyon. The scrub oak, also known as Gambel's Oak, are really showing off.

I mentioned that there aren't very many flowers actively blooming. Some are bravely trying, though, like these little ice plants (Delosperma)...

...and this Meadow Saffron. These plants actually only bloom in the fall. They don't stand up; they just flop over like this. They are such a pretty color. They are a member of the lily family.

The plants in the photo below are just about the only plant I know, besides the Meadow Saffron that are still actively blooming. You can see them everywhere around here. I think they look like giant sagebrush, but the real name is Chrysothamnus nauseosus (Rubber Rabbitbrush), and it's a member of the sunflower family.

Of course, what would autumn be without beautiful little acorns on the oak trees? Get 'em while you can, squirrels!

I hope y'all had a great day!
