#2308 Little Women
Today I took myself to the movies to see the latest film adaptation of Little Women. I absolutely love the book. Jo March is one of my favorite characters in literature. Spoiler: I still have a hard time with her rejecting Laurie, even though I know it is the right thing for both of them. But Amy? Ugh.
So there I was, all by myself in the theater at 12:30 this afternoon. The movie started at 12:35, and around 12:34 about ten people arrived in pairs, so my exclusive screening wasn't so exclusive anymore. LOL
I loved the movie. It was beautiful and well-acted. Saoirse Ronan played Jo and she is wonderful. I love her face and her hair and her eyes and her ability. My next favorite was the actress Eliza Scanlen who played Beth. I actually didn't know her name until I looked it up; I haven't seen any of her shows. She was very good as Beth. She was able to play the sick one without being pathetic about it.
I couldn't help comparing this film with the 1994 version. Beth was played by Claire Danes in that film and she has this chin quiver thing that she does in all her movies that drives me nuts. Today's Beth didn't have a chin quiver and she was still very convincing at having scarlet fever.
Laura Dern was Marmee and she's wonderful. Timothee Chalamet was Laurie. I don't know about this one. He just seems so young. Maybe it's because he is so slim. I know that sounds dumb. He just didn't seem to be right for Jo (which of course he isn't.) I had to look up their actual ages because I thought Timothee was like 17. He's not. He's in his 20s, just like Saoirse, so it's not unreasonable.
Can we talk about Friedrich for a minute? In the 1994 movie, Friedrich was played by Gabriel Byrne. Now I know that Friedrich is supposed to be older than Jo by quite a bit, but I felt like Gabriel Byrne was way too old. I like this Friedrich much better.
Of course I cried multiple times. I loved the costumes and the scenery. I love the story. It was a really great way to spend a couple of hours on a cold Sunday afternoon. See it if you get the chance. Read the book!

I wanted to follow-up really fast on Friday's post on the photo of Spudz and T. First of all, Spudz is the dude's nickname, of course. He's from Idaho. His real name is Andrew.
Second, Darren Bailey is the husband of my co-worker Tuppence. He really has won 17 regional Emmys for his work on various news programs. I was having a hard time with the light because when I focused on the guys, the background was all washed out. Darren simply shined his iPhone light right behind me, which illuminated the guys and made the background less glare-y. Genius!
