This weekend has been super mellow. Yesterday MT and I followed a pattern that went something like this:
Eat
Read
Nap
Repeat
At night we watched a couple of MCU movies. We were quite sedentary.
This morning we both slept in and laid in bed for awhile just reading and relaxing. In the afternoon we went out for a walk. We decided to go back out to the Great Salt Lake and explore the little trail we looked at on Friday, called Lee Creek. We walked to the end of the Lee Creek Trail, which was about half a mile long, and then decided to walk to the water. It was pretty desolate and the water seemed like a long ways away.
To the left (west) of where we were walking, we saw some things that I thought were random, but it turns out, they weren't random at all. It was some sort of marked trail.
What was it? Those are salty blocks of wood that are all worn down. The soil was sandy dirt covered by a fine crust of salt. We walked and walked until we got to these:
Also salty wood, but a lot taller. What was this? Why is it there? The lake has been receding over the years. I imagine that at some point the water surrounded these posts. Was there a pier?
We kept walking. The trail was still marked, although you could really walk just about anywhere. There wasn't a lot of water on the flats. Finally we made it to the lake itself.
That might be Antelope Island out there. I don't know. There was another island closer to us to the east (not pictured). Maybe Stansbury Island? There 15 islands out there in the lake.
You can see that the ground is pretty muddy, so we didn't get any closer to the real water than this. There was a cool, stiff breeze coming out of the north and the temperature was in the mid-40s. The sun felt good and we weren't cold, especially on the way back to the car when the wind was at our back. It really wasn't a very long walk, only about a mile from the end of the Lee Creek Trail to the water, In total we walked about three miles. We didn't see any other people out there.
On our way back home, there were more people out on the beach by Saltair. One day we will walk out there too. That's definitely not a long walk and it might be fun to check it out.
I hope you enjoyed your weekend and if you celebrate Easter, that you were able to get some joy or peace or fun from it.
Keep staying safe!
