#2395 three things: all about the library

1. The library is open! Kinda. Because of the pandemic, the libraries have been closed. I could still borrow books through Overdrive, which is the library's online platform. Through Overdrive, I can put books I'd like to read on a wish list. When I finish a book, I go to my wish list and look through what's available and borrow it. That is not new, but it was the sole way to get library books for the past couple of months. This week, though, the libraries kind of opened. You can't go in, but you can get a real book if you have it on hold and it becomes available. The way you receive the book is by...

2. Curbside pickup. I have about five books on hold at the library and one of them became available this week. I got an email from the library telling me I could have it and how to get it. I had to schedule an appointment to pick it up curbside at the library. It was all super easy. I made the appointment for noon on Wednesday. The library wanted to know what car I'd be in and my library card number. Then they gave me a space number. I drove to the library, found my parking space and a few minutes later, a librarian came out, verified my name and placed my book on a chair. She walked away and I jumped out of the car to get the book, which was wrapped up in a plastic bag. Lovely! I started reading it right away and I think I'm gonna like it!

3. Delayed delivery. Another fun new feature at the library is delayed delivery. I mentioned I have a few books on hold. I got a notification tonight that another book (an electronic version) was available. The thing is, I am currently actively reading four books. As excited as I am to read the book I was notified about today, I just can't do it. Fortunately, the library is now offering this delayed delivery. I requested a seven day delay on the book, so it should be available to me again on the 25th. I'll definitely be done with the ebook I'm reading by then and I'll be glad to get a new one. It used to be that if you had a book on hold and it became available, you had to get it within two or three days or you'd miss out. I like this new service. I'll let you know if I really get the book next week.

YAY READING!
