If a pandemic virus hadn't come into our world earlier this year and if everything was right, I would be preparing to travel to France right now. I'd be packing and making sure I had everything I needed for a long weekend in Paris before spending a week on the Riviera.
But no...
Instead I am reminiscing about this day five years ago when Lizzie, Mom, and I spent our first full day in Barcelona. The three of us talked about the trip for a few minutes last night. What a fun trip. I looked through the photos from Sept 15, 2015 and here are a some of my favorites:
Mom and Lizzie in Plaza Real. I have always liked Plaza Real and I think it is because of the palm trees. The street lamps were designed by Gaudi. I think the square is beautiful. We sat at a little cafe and had a beer and some snacks that, as I recall, were not very good. The scenery was great, though.
Me and the giants. Our plan for the day was just to wander down the Ramblas and acclimate to the city. We happened upon this building where there were a bunch of giants, well giant statues anyway. I'm not sure of their significance, but I think it has something to do with the La Merce, a giant end-of-summer festival. Anyway, I really, really liked the giants.. They are so colorful! There were lots of giants too; there was a dragon and an eagle and other human types. It was awesome.
Lizzie's face at Els 4Gats. At some point during the day, Mom told us about this little bar where Picasso (and others) used to hang out. Since we were in the area, we decided to try to find it. We were completely charmed by the place and truly happy to be there.
Mom at the fountain in Plaza Catalunya. This is the spot where she met Dad. Enough said.
Seriously, what I wouldn't do to be back in Barcelona right now. I love that city.
